Owner description: Our mission is to engage and enrich lives by displaying and conserving plants in harmony with our Northern California coastal ecosystems. Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens offers everything from colorful displays to thunderous waves. The mild maritime climate makes it a garden for all seasons, attracting gardeners and nature lovers. With manicured formal gardens, a dense coastal pine forest, native flora and habitats, fern-covered canyons, camellias, rhododendrons, magnolias and conifers, heaths and heathers, and flower-filled coastal bluffs overlooking the blue ocean, the garden is a jewel on the Pacific Coast. Open daily except the Saturday after Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. March-October 9am-5pm, November-February 9am-4pm. Rhody's Cafe, located in the Gardens, serves fresh, locally made lunches, coffee drinks, desserts, and Cowlicks'Hand Made Ice Cream. Picnic lunches are available. Open April-September, 11am-4pm. The Garden Store and Nursery on the Plaze are open daily. There is no admission charge to visit the Store, Nursery, or Cafe.

“Rhody's Cafe Makes Gardens Even Better”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

Our most recent visit to Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens was even better because of the additional of Rhody's Garden Cafe offering delicious soups, salads and sandwiches on the garden plaza. The menu is reasonably priced and features fresh, local ingredients. The new "signature" ice cream sandwich is to live for! While there is a fee for the garden, access is free to the shop, cafe and nursery. Another expanded feature is the amazing vegetable garden on the south side of the 47 acre property. A dedicated gardener and volunteer crew have created a demonstration food (and flower) garden that has already provided more than 1,700 pounds of fresh produce to the local food bank this year. It's a great place to pick up tips on food gardening and edible landscaping, or just enjoy a picnic (from Rhody's Cafe) at one of the nearby picnic tables.

“Exquisite gardens and view of the coast”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Coming from the desert we really enjoyed these beautiful gardens. This is a well planned garden with many hidden gems and walking paths and trails. Give yourself plenty of time to explore the many acres of different types of plantings. The dahlias were in glorious bloom in all their colorful variations. There are many benches to sit and quietly reflect on the beauty.

“Breathtaking gardens - dog friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

Amazing gardens stretching all the way to the headlands - over 40 acres all of them incredibly well kept. The pooch tuckered out about half way to the coast - next time a two day visit might be in order.

“One of the highlights of our vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

This is a must see for anyone. I am in a wheelchair and they offered an electric scooter for me to rent at a small fee. They explained the paths I could go down and the ones that were too steep for the scooter. If you wanted to use your own chair you could but I suggest the scooter. You will be more relaxed and less taxed so you can stay longer. The staff was VERY accommodating and friendly. I love botanical gardens and this one did not disappoint! Even though there were some paths that I could not go on, I do not feel as if I missed a thing. I believe I was able to see just about everything there was to see. The gardens are expansive and include a gorgeous ocean viewing area. Everything seemed to be in full bloom, it was simply magical. I can not say enough about the beauty I saw there. I think we stayed a good two hours just looking around, taking pictures and sitting by the ocean. I would recommend the gardens to everyone. It is for families of all ages, lovers, friends and for silent contemplation/meditation.
