We absolutely love Burke's Canoe Trips. Living in San Francisco, my fiance and I love heading up to Guerneville to relax along the Russian River. It's a wonderful escape from what can be hectic city living. Our last trip up there, we decided to do a canoeing trip through Burke's, and we were not disappointed.
Upon arrival, we found a nice shady place to park our car, and headed up to the reservations desk. The people working there were very lively and sweet, and they made us feel very excited about the journey we were about to embark on. They had us fitted with life vests, and then showed us our canoe, and off we went.
While there were many other people canoeing on this warm beautiful day, we felt as if we were alone in our private paradise. I believe it's about 11 miles of river before you get to the ending location- we took our time, scouting out places to stop and lounge in the sand. We found this one little adorable beach that I never wanted to leave. It took us somewhere in the neighborhood of 6 hours to reach the end location- towards the end we were pretty wiped out, but not extremely. Once we reached land, we were helped out of our canoes and we found a nice little patch of grass to sit on while we waited for the shuttle to pick us up.
The shuttle that picked us up was ADORABLE. It's an old school bus, all hand painted and just so cute. They were blasting Bob Marley, which was the perfect end to an amazingly serene day.
I can't recommend this trip enough. It's a wonderful, wonderful experience, and I can't wait to go back this summer!!
Oh, and on our way home we stopped by the Russian River Brewery in Santa Rosa and helped ourselves to a few Pliny the Elders and pizza bites. YUM.
