We stayed at the Apple Tree Inn on our way to Yosemite and were very happen to have found such a beautiful and friendly lodge to stay in. We picked it out of a Travel Coupon magazine and found the rate to be very reasonable and when we arrived we were thrilled with the quality and cleanliness of our room. The rooms are heated by a great propane fireplace and we did have trouble starting the first one we got but the girl at the front desk was very accommodating and immediately put us in a new room with working fireplace (a must in the hills in Nov) She even did a follow up call to make sure we were happy with our new room which was a very pleasant surprise. They exceeded my expectations in service. The breakfast was much better then the average continental breakfast that you get and the coffee was hot and plentiful. My only regret is that we were only there for one night. I highly recommend this property to fellow travellers. I love the way the cabins are set up and the decor is a wonderful change from the run of the mill hotel rooms. You can't beat the quality for the price that we paid.($79).

The property is cozy and was a comforting sight after a long day in Yosemite. The lobby was busy with many people checking in and asking questions but there was only 1 employee. She was very apologetic but the other guests seemed angry when they should not have been. The room was lovely and featured a gas fireplace. There are huge redwoods surround all off the cabins and you are given the feeling that you are in the wilderness. The lodge next door is connected by a small path, but it was too dark to take it by the time we wanted to eat dinner. There are beautiful sitting areas and decks with each of the cabins and is perfect for any nature lover. While you are staying on the south side of Yosemite, it is only a few minutes from the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias as well as about a 1/2 hour from the Wawona Hotel and historic village. If you are a wuss who cannot drive down curvy roads, you'll probably want to stay inside the park at one of the more over-priced lodges. The inn was perfect for my family and we would definately return to it. The breakfast was delicious and the facilities are quite nice. The room just needed some painting and it would have been perfect!

We stayed here for two nights and were really happy with the hotel's proximity to the park. Although it's quite a long drive to Yosemite Valley, we were prepared for that and so the distance didn't bother us.
The room was clean and neat, and we were greeted well at reception. The kids were thrilled with the pool and spa after a long day's drive.
Breakfast was good except that the toasters are really S-L-O-W so expect a queue to form while you're waiting for your toast. Also we had to hunt down an elusive breakfast tea teabag (hidden underneath the herbals).

Just one criticism: we had to get up at 5.30 on our final day and were told that breakfast was only served from 7:30 a.m. You can make coffee in your room, but it would have been nice to at least have a bagel or a roll before setting out on an 9 hour drive towards Las Vegas.
In all, though, a comfortable stay, and reasonable for the area.

We stayed 3 nights at the Apple Tree Inn using it as a base to go into Yosemite and enjoyed the experience. We had a 2 bed suite and were impressed with the size of room and overall cleanliness and condition of the hotel, it's obvious that they take pride in the appearance of the inn and it's gardens.
The breakfast was exceptionally good for a "help yourself", big choice and good quality food - you get very nice pancakes at the weekend!" I cannot see how anyone could complain about this, you have to clear your plates but they are proper plates not the plastic stuff you normally get!.
Hotel staff were very helpful and knowledgable.
Rooms have coffee maker, fridge, and microwave and very comfy large beds.
You can walk from the Inn to the Wanona hotel next door - 5 and the drive to Yosemite floof does take about 40 mins if you get out of bed and get moving before the 10 am rush - no complaints here, if you want to be in Yosemite in 5 mins stay in the valley and book early and pay the rate otherwise enjoy the drive!
Only problem is that there are no eating places nearby - we went into Oakhurst for steak and got a take away Pizza one night.
Nice place would definately recommend it!

  • Liked — Clean, comfortable, good value
  • Disliked — Lack of nearby restaurtants at a reasonable price - 20min drive reqd

Okay, many reviews complain about the long drive to the Yosemite Valley, and yes, it takes about an hour to get there (expect delays at park entrance due to heavy traffic - an early start is advisable). On the other side, there is plenty of places to go for shopping and dining very close to the hotel. You wouldn't have this inside the park.
The room we got was spacious, had a nice fireplace, and was clean too. However, there were three mini-apartments in the house and the walls are very thin. You hear a lot of noises from the neighbors, especially when they are using the bathroom. Someone having a shower at 7 a.m. did wake us all up.
Breakfast is nothing great but okay. They run out of tea bags though and you might get something cooked like scrambled eggs or pancakes one day but not another day... And there is room for improvement on the cleanliness in the dining area.

However, I don't want to complain too much, because the room rate is relatively low for Yosemite, and overall the stay in the Apple Tree Inn was a good deal.
