“Save your money and go elsewhere”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2009

We stayed at Tenaya because of a conference I attended. The hotel is very close to Mariposa Grove in Yosemite. When entering the hotel, the first view was of 3 large blue dumpster in which little effort was made to hide them. The grounds were unkept with weeds in the flower beds and around the trees. Not the prettiest views for such a beautiful area. The hotel itself was very average. One could certainly tell it was a little dated (80's), but kept in nice condition. Our room was on the first floor. It was average in size and appearance. We were fortunate that we didn't have the noise so many people have complained about. There was a standing sign at the beginning of our hall asking guest to be quiet while in the hallways. The room contained a mini-frig which came in really handy since we didn't eat any of our meals at the hotel- too expensive. In the evenings, we would drive 12 miles to Oakhurst and eat there. The town also had a nice grocery to purchase snacks and food. The pool area was nice for the kids- both indoor and outdoor. The weight room was for adults only . Activities all cost. For the $300+/night one would think something would be included. Clearly this hotel is very overpriced. You are merely paying for the convenience to Yosemite. I would not go back to this hotel unless the price would decrease significantly- just not worth the money.

We stayed in the cottages for 1 night (+$300)
They are very cosy, but you hear a lot of noise coming from your direct neighbours.
The walls are very thin.
I didn't know that there were 3 rooms in one cottage.
So I was a little disappointed.
We ordered roomservice for dinner, and I can say it took the little disappointed away.

This hotel is conveniently located to Yosemite's southern entrance and is gorgeous, but that's pretty much where it stops. The service we received was poor and housekeeping started knocking on the door at 8:30 a.m. For almost $400 a night, it's just not worth it.

Pro's:
Free parking
Beautiful location
Comfortable bed
Free roll-away bed (although we had to ask twice for it)

Con's:
Sleep - housekeeping knocked on our door at 8:30 a.m. & at 9:30 a.m. despite the do not disturb sign hung on the door. Paper thin walls allowed us to hear the seemingly dozens of young children running around next to us and above us.
Rude restaurant service
$10 internet

We stayed at the lodge for three nights and we quite liked the place. The hotel is quite big, not quite like a lodge, but has a nice feel to it. During the first night we were driven nuts by a super loud dripping noise just outside the room. Until 3am we managed to deal with it but then I couldn't take it anymore and went to the reception to make them aware of the problem. The lady at reception was great and offer to move us immediately but unfortunately they only had a twin room available, i.e. no double room. Therefore I decided to stay in the current room and move during the next day. The receptionist then offered some ear plugs and apologised for having to do so. We changed the room next day and I asked at the reception what the hotel usually does with regards to compensation for these cases. The lady offered a $50 reduction of the room rate with which I was happy and the case was totally closed. The rest of the stay was fine, we ate in the hotel restaurant twice but I would encourage people to venture out and find a slightly better place to eat. The hotel food is ok but not great. All in all we liked the place and would return there.

We stayed in Teyana Lodge for the first night while visiting Yosemite Park in July 2009. Our plan was to stay one night outside the park (the receptionest told me that we could spend one day around the hotel) and the rest of the three nights inside the valley. This was a mistake. There are so much to see inside the valley, you would waist your time to stay there. It takes 45 minutes to drive from Teyana through the whining road to enter the Valley. The hotel was good, but there is not much around it.
After checking in, we went fishing – the river had no fish at all! After that, we went horseback riding (advertised) for two hours. It was $80 per person and a complete disaster – there were no good views on the trail. All we got was huge dust for the whole time. The horse feet dig through the dry dirt trail and spread the dust that could almost suffocate you. It was an expensive suffering experience!

- HOTEL LOCATION
The location is ok - only a few mins drive from the park entrance gate but long way from Yosemite Village (35 miles)

- RESTAURANTS
We had 3 dinners and 1 breakfast. Only good meal was at their more "upmarket" restaurant - you pay a little bit more but worth it. Staff good and food good.
The main restaurant was dreadful. My starter salad the first evening had old lettuce and not much to it. It was only the following day that I realised that they must have run out of ingredients as the same salad looked a lot better.
Breakfast service was appauling. Very slow server - we had to ask 3 times for our check and then it was wrong. We ended up getting breakfast from the small deli shop next to the lobby.

- ROOM
Room was fine.

Overall, for the price you pay, this is not worth it. Would rather pay $10-20 night more to stay at the 3 hotels in the park.

It is nearly impossible to get ahold of the concierge which you need to speak with if you want to do anything so be prepared to sit and wait as I was told. The rest. was okay nice outdoor seating at night (very romantic). The rooms are quite expensive but that seems to be a pattern in the area. I had a great flashlight hike but there were a lot of noisy kids in the hallways all the time. I expected the lobby to be nicer and overall not much of a lodge feel to it. Location wise it is far from yosemite but not too bad, I personally do not like staying in the village it was a nice respite to come to Tenaya at night. If they can make service better and fix up the hotel a bit it would be perfect. It needs more details
