“Great Location, Wonderful Staff, Tired Facilities”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 3, 2014

We enjoyed our time here. Of course the location is majestic, just outside the southern entrance to Yosemite. The staff at the Lodge has to be some of the most helpful and friendly I have encountered. Everyone from the front desk, to the concierge, to the restaurant, they all go above and beyond to meet the guests' needs. The exterior of the lodge is gorgeous, but inside it looks a little tired. The rooms are nothing special, at all. For the price, I was expecting more. We stayed in 234 and the bathroom tile was chipped, the grout stained, frayed carpet edges coming up in places; it just doesn't match the outside. Also, it was extremely noisy. There were people up and down the hallway conversing loudly and singing well into the night on Saturday night. Sunday night was much more quiet. I doubt I'd return without an amazing discount.

Room Tip: Ask to be away from large groups as they seem to go up and down the hall from room to room making no...

Green Features: They seemed "green" to me. They had recycling and you could keep your towels for two days if you wanted.

Thanks for your feedback, KniteRiter. We are so pleased to hear you had a wonderful experience with our staff and enjoyed your surroundings, but are sorry that you were disappointed with your room. Tenaya is currently undergoing room renovations in order to provide our guests with a full Four Diamond experience. We appreciate your comments.

We got a special deal on Travel Zoo. Everyone was great when we checked in, especially Brent the bellman. He took us to our room which was a little dark so he took the time to show us a few upgrade rooms. We negotiated a upgrade with Amanda at the front desk and had a wonderful room with a whirlpool tub and balcony. This place is huge with several pools and activities. Unfortunately the weather turned bad and we couldn't take advantage of activities. A little bad news......this place is in the middle of nowhere! They have two restaurants that offer virtually the same food varying high prices. You're pretty much stuck here because the next restaurant is about a half-hour to 45 minutes away depending on weather on a dark winding road. The food and service was not wonderful. Very nice servers, but not enough of them. All in all a real nice place, we enjoyed it but they need to check out their food operations.

We began our trip at 3 am when we left for the airport in Texas. We flew to San Jose, CA and drove to Tenaya Lodge at Yosemite. Arriving at 6:00 pm ( our 8:00 pm ), so a very long day. When we walked through the doors, our spirits were lifted. The Christmas decorations, a live band with a beautiful singer, and families and pets everywhere! It was like we entered a Christmas card.
Our rooms were just as described on the website and better, very nice large rooms. If I had to be nit picky, the faucet in the tub needs updating. The room had a small refrigerator which was helpful.
The hotel has many eating opportunities from expensive to family style. We enjoy our breakfast and nightly meals. You can also purchase box lunches for your day out.
Our schedule only allowed 2 nights which was not even.

The Tenaya Lodge is a very nice place with a great setting. It is close to the entrance to Yosemite National Park and the Mariposa Grove, but at least 45 minutes from the Valley (far longer in summer when you will probably be stuck behind multiple RVs on the winding road). It has very nice rooms and good service. There are a lot of amenities on site, including several very good restaurants. We ate the the Sierra one night. The food was excellent, but very pricey. Our main complaint is the price for the rooms. We were quoted a very reasonable price, but when we checked in, we were informed about a $15 per night "resort fee." If that price had been included upfront, I would still have booked the rooms since it was still reasonable. However, quoting us one price and then tacking on this fee is deceptive and sneaky. It is probably becoming very prevalent, but I will avoid resorts that follow this practice.

Room Tip: I recommend the cottages. They are very nice, quiet, and don't cost much more.

Green Features: They seem to be considerate of the environment is many ways, but they change the room towels every day - not very water conscious.

Thanks for your comments, BillB947. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and dining experiences. The resort fee is a brand new implementation, but we apologize for any frustration felt with your new nightly rate. We appreciate your feedback.

Our family of four (two adults and two 17year olds) stayed at Tenaya Lodge over the Christmas break this year - we booked the two room cabin which was away from the main lodge. The rooms in the cabin aren't overly large but it is kept lovely and warm by a gas fireplace in the corner of the main room.
Unfortunately due to my husband getting sick with a cold / cough we needed to book another room, the receptionist on duty on Christmas morning (I wish I could remember her name) was very helpful and found a room in the lodge for my daughter and I at a very reasonable rate so we could get some sleep.
We never had any problems with noise in either the lodge room or the cabin (apart from my husbands coughing at night).
The only negative part was the size of the bathroom in the cabin, it was very small with next to no counter space.
Special thanks to Jeff in security - we left some medication behind in the fridge and he arranged for the to be posted to our next hotel.

Room Tip: Cabins are nice and quiet and away from the main lodge. The two room cabins are on the top floor an...

We just stayed jau 20th 2014 best time ever we have 4yr old twins and they loved it. It is a very family friendly resort but yet if you have NO kids you would love it as well, at no time were there kids screaming and running around crazy mostly because the kids are in the arcade room, swimming, ice skating, or just tired from hiking. There are tons of places to relax and drink your coffee in peace or be loud and run. They really did an amazing job of having something for everyone. We ate dinner one night and the food was great a little pricy but you are at a resort in the mountains and food cost more to get it there. We will return without a doubt LOVEED IT? :) Staff was great JoAnne helped make are reservation and she went above and beyond!

This hôtel is charging a non optional 15 USD as "resort fee" which is not included in the advertised price at time of booking.
The room was very noisy all night long ,due to a loud fan noise of the air conditioning of the room next door , that could not be stopped.
The environment of the hôtel is a forest with no interest. No view on mountains , the Yosemite park is still 1 h drive further north.

Pierre, we are sorry to read you were disappointed with your stay. If possible, could you share with us what happened to give you the impression that you were not listened to during your stay? We would like to share your thoughts with our management team.

The resort fee was made effective Jan. 6. You can see the details and the many amenities and guest conveniences that it applies to on our reservations page: http://www.tenayalodge.com/reservations.aspx.

The lodge is actually a quick, two-minute drive from the Yosemite park entrance. The drive to the valley is part of the experience and along the way there is the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias, the historic Wawona, the road to the Badger Pass ski area, and the tunnel pass turnout where some of the most beautiful views of the valley can be found.

We hope you enjoy the rest of your travels, and thank you for your comments.
