We stayed in one of the cottages attached to Tenaya Lodge at the end of a four week tour of the North Eastern cities and San Francisco. It was a wonderful respite. For the most part, the staff seemed genuine in their efforts to assist us with our queries, which is more than one can say for some other hotels and resorts. They were amiable without being theatrical or overbearing. This was particularly in respect of the valets and the concierge, who really deserve this special mention.
We stayed for five nights and recommend the same to everyone else. Four whole days to explore Yosemite National Park such as the Valley Floor, Mariposa Grove, Glacier Point and the High Sierra (we counted ourselves lucky to get to see all this just before the US government shutdown).
It takes about one hour to get from the Lodge to the Valley Floor and up to three hours to the High Sierra. But don't worry, the scenery along the way is glorious! By the time you get back to the Lodge you will appreciate all it has to offer. I soaked in the indoor pool while my wife indulged in the spa treatment (which she highly recommends).
The restaurant food was good and the breakfasts sumptuous, which makes me wonder a bit about the wastage. But you get exactly what you pay for -- four star quality.
We stayed as a couple within this resort which promotes itself as family friendly. We sometimes heard the patter of little feet above us in the upper floor of the adjacent cottage in the early evening, but this didn't bother us as they quietened down by nightfall. In fact, this is a perfect resort for everyone to have their needs met, regardless of whether they be for business, couples, families or whatever. Highly recommended.
