“great family stay at the Tenaya”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2008

We stayed at the Tenaya for 3 nights on our first visit to Yosemite and have nothing but great things to say. The property and our room were spotless and well-appointed, the pools are huge, and the staff were extremely friendly. The property is about an hour south of Yosemite village, so it's a bit of a hike in the car to get there, but the advantages of that are much better value for money than staying in the park (especially if you go during the week), AND you get to see Tunnel View, probably the single most awesome scene in the whole valley. Our only suggestion to fellow travellers is: don't pay the $10/each extra for the breakfast buffet coupons, especially if you have kids. It's not worth it and if we go again we will just catch breakfast in the deli. The deli will also make great box lunches to take for picnics.

  • Liked — cleanliness, pool, exercise facilities
  • Disliked — children's menu, breakfast buffet

We stayed at the Teneya Lodge 2 nights, May 26 & 27th. Our rate was $179.00, for 2 queen beds and that price included a wonderful buffett breakfast. The hotel is very nice inside and out. We used the spa and had a massage and facial. Same price as you would normally pay anywhere else. It was located right by the pool and weight room. I did hear a bit of noise while the massage was taking place but it did not ruin my treatment. We ate dinner the first night in the Sierra restaurant and it was delicious. Thomas, our waiter was professional, attentive and helpful. The bill was about $80.00 per couple with wine and beer and 1 dessert. The next day we ordered a boxed sandwich lunch from the deli shop in the lodge and took it with us. It was great too. The second evening we ate casual at the Jackalope Bar and Grill. The food was good but the service was a bit slow. Seemed to not have enough staff that night and a large crowd. The conceirge desk was very helpful with maps and hiking print outs for Yosemite. The lodge has a large fireplace in the lobby with lots of sofa's and chairs to lounge. We enjoyed Teneya and thought it was perfectly located. Being 2 miles from the entrance of the park was not an inconvenience for us at all. We loved Teneya, highly recommend it and will stay there again. By the way, they are pet friendly. We saw 2 well behaved dogs while there. Yosemite is the MOST beautiful of all our National Parks! We have visited 22 Nat'l parks and this one is breath-taking. Enjoy your visit to both the park and Teneya Lodge.

I recently returned from a stay here and thought this was a really nice hotel. The drive to the south gate was about 2-3 miles and wasn't bad at all, however the drive to the valley floor from the gate was pretty awful, twisty roads that didn't seem to end. We enjoyed the outdoor pool/jacuzzi and the indoor as well which were nice. We also ate meals (breakfasts and dinners) at the Sierra restaurant which all of us thought were good. One downside was a group of kids that arrived before we checked out, they completely took over the pool area and didn't appear to have any adult supervision, this really diminished our ability to enjoy the pool area towards the end of our stay. We also enjoyed the BBQ they had below the hotel which enhanced our enjoyment of our stay.

We visited Yosemite in May, and stayed at Tenaya Lodge.
I booked this place through their website.
Previously reviewers complained about kids being loud and running around. We didn't have any problem with that since we visited in Mid-May weekdays (wed-friday). It was VERY quiet and cozy. Our room was decent. Clean bedroom. Bathroom was also clean. Pool was nice. I agree with one of the reviewers about Chloride smell but it wasn't that bad. workout room was spacious and had pretty much everything you want.
Foods are weak though. It's not even 3-star hotel quality. Think of it as a local diner food. But hey, you're here for Yosemite not for the hotel experience.
I takes about an hour to get to the day parking area.
The bottom is this. If you dont mind driving for an hour in that curvy road and you want a decent, clean hotel, this is a good choice. Little ones in the back of the car may get car sick because the road is so curvy.

We thought that this would be a great 4 diamond hotel/lodge to stay in the woods. We have stayed at 5 diamond/stars and where not impressed. The spa was not a professional spa. I got a pedicure in the pool area. When I got a facial, it was noisy since the rooms where across from the weight room and a hall where people didn't read the signs to be quiet. also, My daughter has asthma and our a/c didn't work. We called for service and they didn't fix it until the next night. The front desk was rude to my husband when we checked out about this situation. We do not plan to return and will not recommend this lodge to anyone else. I would have to say that it was a 2 diamond not 4.

  • Liked — food in the fancy restaurant was great
  • Disliked — spa and no a/c

After we first stayed there during Christmas 2003 I knew we will be back again. Very charming lodge with lots of activities for kids and adults. So, we were back for Christmas 2007 and didn’t have any regrets. This time we went with our 4 y.o daughter and she really enjoyed it. They have large indoor swimming pool which is really nice to use especially during the winter, and my daughter loves to swim. Plus, Jacuzzi, fitness center and sauna. Also they recently built their own ice rink and my daughter tried it for the very first time in her life. Even though she spent on ice only 10 mins (I think it’s too early for 4 y.o), it’s definitely was memorable experience and I don’t regret paying $20 or so for 10 mins :-)

We spent lot of time sledding. They have many sliding areas and we took our sled with us, even though you can buy one there at their gift shop. They also had one horse open slay rides every day every hr from 10 to 4, which was also really nice. 40 mins ride with one stop on the ranch where we looked at the horses and had some hot cider.

Santa Clause never showed up though, even it was promised in the flyers and advertised on their web site. Mrs. Clause appeared during Christmas dinner. She was giving away some candies and talking to children. Christmas dinner buffet style in the ball room was very nice with the band playing and neat decorated tables. Alcohol had to be purchased separately though. Kids under 5 y.o were free.

They were also serving free hot chocolate with marshmallows, jelly beans, whipped cream, etc. in the lobby every evening. And children’s violin quartet was playing. During our 1st stay they had very cute magician show in their theater. I was surprised they didn’t have anything this time. But we spent our time at the pool in the evenings. The pool is never crowded, that’s a big plus. Food is a little bit pricy in the restaurants, but it’s always like that in good hotels/resorts. They have cafeteria though where you can buy just a sandwich or a salad at cheaper price. Breakfast buffet has reasonable price (I think it’s about $12.50, or so and kids under 5 are free). We definitely will be back next Christmas.

  • Liked — pool, sledding areas, good food, 1 horse open slay ride
  • Disliked — That we had to go home

I have traveled quite a bit, this is a poorly laid out hotel, that has thrown up some wood and slate in order to appear like it is a lodge, a room that cost almost $500 per night should not have blue tape holding up the wall paper in the bathroom, nor should mold be visable on the bathroom walls. The walls themselves are paper thin and you could hear everything above and below you. The final insult when I attempted to use my credit card in one of the resturants I was asked for ID. I will never go back nor would I tell anyone to go
