“Wonderful Retreat!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2013

The Tenaya Lodge was a wonderful and relaxing spot just minutes from the entrance of Yosemite. We stayed two nights and wished it was for longer. The hotel reminded us of the Wilderness Lodge in Disneyworld. Everyone who worked there had a smile on thier face and were willing to help with anything. They upgraded our room to a suite since one was available at no extra charge which was heavenly! The outdoor and indoor pools were great for the kids! We booked a flashlight tour at the hotel that took us through the woods on a 2 hour adventure the first night we were there, which was one of our favorite things. Our guide, Hailey pointed out many different trees, animals, and told the hisory of the area. She also shared stories of her growing up in the area. We all LOVED this! The next day we took the Discover Yosemite tour which was an all day bus tour and our guide, Glenn, was wonderful! The kids loved the all you can eat snacks and drinks throughout the day and we loved hearing all about Yosemite and being led to all of the must see sights of the park. This was a great way to see Yosemite in a day. I wish we had had more time to go through some of the museums and shops, but next time, we will plan an extra day for this.

Room Tip: Ask for a free upgrade in your room if available.

Been thinking about going to Yosemite for some years ...finally got there.
Tenaya Lodge was the perfect place to be for tours and leisure time.
We had beautiful rooms....great food and fantastic service.
This is one beautiful property...rustic furnishings and that Lodge feel that we love.
MaryEllen, our concerige, was the best! Helped us figure out where, when, who!!!
Johanna, the Host of the Embers Restaurant was a joy..the food and service was topnotch
but we felt the other restaurant (??Name??) had more ambiance.
Jackalope Grill/Bar was fun for drinks and they always let us sit in there with our breakfast sandwiches and coffee......purchased at the Deli next door in the lobby. The greatest breakfast sandwiches in the world!!!!
Go..stay...relax....and enjoy.

Room Tip: We had requested top floor and away from elevators...place was full when we were there but we had n...

Great feedback, thanks so much for sharing! Happy you finally made it to Yosemite and that Tenaya Lodge was able to enhance your experience. The restaurant you are referring to is Sierra Restaurant. We will be sure to pass along your kind words to Mary Ellen and Johanna. Thanks again, and we look forward to serving you another time!

This trip was a birthday gift to my companion and she liked it.The Tenaya Lodge was a nice place to stay, but our stay started out with a hiccup when they couldn't find my reservation. When we did find it it was under my companions name...they had alerted IT to the problem. We had the same problem when we picked up our tour tickets. Once we got our tickets everything went well. The room was nice and comfortable. The WiFi was sloooow. If you wanted faster service you had to pay extra. The staff at the Lodge were very friendly and helpful. Same with the wait staff at the restaurants. We did the Discover Yosemite Tour and it was Great. It was nice being 5 minutes from the South Entrance to Yosemite.

Room Tip: Save some money by booking as early as possible.

We had a great time at this hotel. We knew that it was an hour from Yosemite valley, that suited us fine as the accommodation inside the park didn't look as appealing. We got upgraded, with free breakfast. On the first morning we left before breakfast so they let us swap our breakfast for a packed lunch which was great. The lodge has swimming pools, restaurants, a deli, all you could need. We loved the lobby, with its huge open fire. We thought the service was very good, all staff we encountered were friendly & helpful. As you would expect, things are pricer here as they have a captive audience, but overall we enjoyed our stay & would recommend & return.

This was a very nice hotel to stay at. The price was pretty reasonable and the room was nice. Everyone from the first person that greeted us to the hostess/waitress were very nice. It seemed as if it was a very family friendly place as it had a lot of activities. It would have been nice if we could have spent more time there to see all that the hotel had to offer. I would definitley recommend for a family that plans to stay in Yosemite.

One stay. One night. Two families (one from abroad, one local).

The location is about 5min. drive from the entrance of the park. This means you are about 50min-1hr. from the valley floor depending upon traffic (no passing for much of the attractive drive).

The wifi is free and speed moderate, but unnecessarily difficult to get in. The multiple required steps beyond most hotels (about 5 screens with confusing instructions on each) stumped two other two others in our group.

The rooms were clean, but we had to make due with two double beds that felt old. Not awful, but uncomfortable.

The hotel checks all the boxes of features that you want (pool, gym, even a locker room). It has a concierge that tries to be helpful, but in our experience didn't have influence with even the restaurants in the hotel let alone restaurants nearby for a last-minute reservation.

The hotel feels very large. It feels like a 3 star large corporate hotel. There is even one central station for seating at all of the three restaurants (choose your price point, if not your quality). Tacky?

We at at the Jackelope for b-fast & lunch. Only one of us liked the lunch entre they had chosen. B-fast was run-of-the-mill. Prices for all of that were average (~10-15 for a sandwich).

The Embers restaurant left us feeling ripped off and that was even before the 10pm call to our room from the waiter who said that our European counterparts added their tip wrong and asked if we would return downstairs to resolve it. (Um, can this wait until tomorrow?) At $30-$40 per entree, we expect good, if not excellent. To a person, the food was poor. The overcooked everything. The next day, resolving the bill took the work five of their staff. That is how little empowerment the staff is given to resolve issues.

If you must stay here, I don't see a reason to subject yourself to Embers. Be prepared for staff that clearly isn't doing this out of a love for the hospitality industry.

Room Tip: Ground floor on the grass is nice. All the rooms are going to look on a parking lot in one way or an...

Thank you for providing feedback on your recent stay with us. The scenic drive from Tenaya Lodge to Yosemite Valley offers numerous photo opportunities along the way including Tunnel View where in one vista you can see all Yosemite’s icons: El Capitan, Bridalveil Fall and Half Dome. We apologize that you encountered challenges in making dinner reservations, and you’ve touched on something worth highlighting. Yosemite National Park is a four-season destination, but the highest levels of visitation occur during the summer months. This tends to affect wait times at all restaurants in the area. Yosemite in the fall or winter can offer a deeper level of engagement with its wonders; we highly recommended! We are also sorry that Embers in particular did not meet its usual high standard for you. We hope the issue you raised here concerning your dining bill was concluded with a satisfactory response; however, if you feel otherwise, please do call Yvonne Moreno at (559) 683-6555 so that we may set things right. Thanks again.

Wished we had booked longer at this hotel as well as planning for extra time in Yosemite National Park. We had a lovely room in the new annex and allowed us to walk into the main hotel past the swimming pool without going outside. Our room was spacious and provided all the facilities we needed. It had a very comfortable bed, excellent shower and bath tub. The annex also provided us with a Laundromat to do our ‘on the go’ laundry. It even had a machine converting dollars into quarters. It was our fault that we didn’t book a few extra nights. Next time we would definitely give this hotel and the Park at least three nights to enjoy both the facilities and the sights.
We visited in early/mid May and there was still a chill in the air, particularly in the evening but we enjoyed the open fire in the lounge and also cocktails before dinner. The Virgin Mary was something but the Bloody Mary had a stick of five vegetables adorning it! Dinner was excellent in the bar (as opposed to the a la carte restaurant).
We had an excellent morning in the Park as the Tenaya Lodge is only a few minutes from the Park’s south gate and got to see the Dogwood in full blossom, the Great Sequoia trees as well as Tunnel View, El Capitan and Bridalview Falls waterfall which was providing a spectacular mist over hundred metres from its base.
Both the hotel and the Park are highly recommended but give them more time than we did sadly. If only we'd booked 3 or 4 more nights!

Room Tip: Stay more than one night to enjoy all the facilities.
