“4 star hotel at best that is trying hard”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

Stayed at this lodge instead of Ahwahnee hotel as that was full. The lodge is not in the park and it takes an hour to drive to Curry Village. The property you can see was purpose built and caters to the family crowd principally. It is trying to be a lodge but does not have the history.

The rooms are spacious but dated with popcorn ceilings as are the bathrooms. The fitness room is small, but the spa must be a newer addition as it is quite good. The restaurants cater to families principally with that style of food. They have one decent upscale restaurant in Embers. The swimming pools are good.

The prices they charge to stay here are very high for the quality of accommodations. Next time spend the money at stay at Ahwahnee.

Our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. The hotel however it a tad dated and in need of an face lift as evidence by the rugs, but not uncomfortably so. It has all the amenities, including a lovely pool and several restaurants of various ranges in price. Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable. We used the valet parking and learned much from a really nice porter named Zack who was very attentive and fun.

One disappointment was the most casual restaurant called Timberloft which is outrageously overpriced. Personal sized 10" pizzas were $17+ and tasted like frozen pizzas although claims of brick oven baked. My pasta dish (no meat) was also $17 and was tasteless and very small in size. As for ambiance, it has a cafeteria feel which would be fine were the prices in line. The only redeeming value of the Timberloft Pizzeria was the lovely waitress who was very engaging and informative about Yosemite.

Although 2 miles outside Yosemite, we were surprised to learn that the drive to major points of Yosemite interest (the Valley and Glacier Point) were about a 45min- 1 hr drive although only 20-25 miles away as the roads are very windy. Still, much more convenient than staying in the closest town which was 13 miles down the road.

Room Tip: Ask if there are any hotel wings or rooms that have been recently renovated. If so, I'd suggest...

Rather expensive but definitely worth it. Very large luxury rooms, in and outdoor pool, cosy bar and nice restaurant where dining outside near the open fire is possible. Located just outside Yosemite Park, close to the Mariposa Grove.

The location of Tenaya Lodge is great, very close to the park entrance, Mariposa Grove, and convenient for Glacier Point. The outdoor pool area is lovely, with a bar and various pools for all ages. The indoor pool is also excellent, and very quiet. We stayed for 2 nights and were very comfortable. The room was a little on the small side but the beds were very comfortable. There is a charge for Wifi, but it is for unlimited devices so not too bad. Parking was difficult, both nights we had to park in a "tow away" zone as there simply were no spaces in the whole car park. We did not get towed though!
The hotel has a very grand lobby, reminded me very much of El Tovar in the Grand Canyon. Reception staff were business-like rather than friendly, but the concierge service was brilliant. I had a list of things we wanted to see in Yosemite, and she gave me an itinerary straight away - it was perfect. She was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful, I would highly recommend using the service to get the most out of your trip.
We has what we considered to be a snack in the restaurant, and it cost nearly $100! It was beautifully served and very nice, but a little pricey. However, there is a cheaper pizza restaurant on the premises, or you can drive the 14 miles to Oakhurst, which we did - and found a wonderful Italian restaurant. Plus all the fast food places, and supermarkets are there. The little deli in the hotel is also good for breakfast, you can buy hot sandwiches, coffee an cereal there. We did that both days, mainly because we had had a week of American breakfasts already and our waistlines were suffering!
All in all this suited us, close enough to the park then the kids could hang out by the pool in the late afternoon.

We stayed here for two nights. The room was comfortable, clean and easy to access (we were in the main building) The pool area was very nice, although a few more loungers might not have gone amiss. The breakfast buffet (we had the "healthy option" so can't comment on the hot food) had a great range and was not over priced for what you got. Food in the main restaurants was nice and the service wa good, but I would give the Pizzeria in the cottage village a miss, the service was friendly enough, but they made lots of mistakes and it's a bit like a tacky roadside joint. The location of the lodge was great though, really easy access to the park and only a short distance away. Overall we had a very pleasant stay.

I was surprised to read all of the recent negative reviews about the service and quality of Tenaya. We stayed for 3 nights and found it very comfortable, relaxing, and accommodating. We chose Tenaya because it was dog friendly, and they were great. Our room was on the first floor, with access to a grassy area to walk him right outside our room. We engaged pet sitters who were activity staff and were great - they actually took our dog to "adventure camp" for kids and it worked out great. Dog sitting was a bit expensive - $15 an hour - but well worth it as we were able to explore Yosemite and knew that he was well taken care of in air conditioned comfort! When we couldn't really sit outside due to a bee problem, they accommodated us sitting inside the lobby with the dog - both for breakfast and dinner. The breakfast buffet was the best I've ever seen - with everything anyone could want - tons of fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese, meat, eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, etc. etc. Since it was included with our room, we thought it was a great deal (AAA or AARP rate), and we were even able to grab fruit and "gorp" (nuts and dried fruit) for our day trips. Dinner was very good - no complaints there. Our rooms were fine. $350 a night might be a bit pricey, but not exorbitant for staying right next to the national park, and having indoor and outdoor pools, spas, etc. All of the service staff was friendly and very helpful - when I got a bee sting, the bar guy at the pool immediately gave me some special medication for it.. We truly enjoyed our stay.

The pictures and write-ups are not the reality. This place is tired, out of date, and unbelievably over-priced. We went there a few days ago with a reservation and were so unimpressed that we left after asking for a refund. We had booked a suite in one of the cabins and had been assured that the cabins are only a few feet from the main lodge. They are a five to ten minute walk. The carpeting was stained and the entire suite was dreary, dark and unappealing. I couldn't wait to get out of there.

We are sorry that your perception of the experience at the Cottages was so disappointing, and we hope we have the chance to change that perception with a return visit to Tenaya Lodge.
