“location and quality accomodations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

Took me so long to figure which entrance to stay near to see Yosemite. We are glad we chose this B & B only 2 miles from the south gate. Each morning we were in the park in a short time. Also, there are dining options nearby that many other lodging options did not have. If you stay in the park you pretty much have to eat there as well. The accommodations were spa like and spotless. There are 3 different rooms upstairs, and there is a lounging area with table, mini fridge, microwave, snacks and LOTS of DVD's to choose from
to watch in your room. Each morning we were greeted with a warm fire downstairs and a gourmet breakfast. Pamela was instrumental in helping us decide what to see, when, etc. The only bad thing was the unexpectedly high taxes on the room rate. I should have asked ahead of time I know. We are not from California and all the extra taxes everywhere were a bit of a shock.

Room Tip: The Mariposa has a King bed and is more of a suite, but the two doubles room although small, has a s...

We recently stayed for 5 nights at the Big Creek Inn during the Government shutdown at the start of October and had a marvelous time. To have cancelled would have been very short sighted and having done my research beforehand knew that the surrounding area outside of the park is just as beautiful and magnificent. Also Pamela’s welcomed recommendations on where to go added to our overall experience as no one knows an area like a local. We stayed in the luxurious Madera room and enjoyed the bucket load of extra amenities that you wouldn’t expect but which made the stay even more enjoyable and memorable. Sitting on the deck overlooking the meadow, having a sundowner and feeding the jays (courtesy of Pam’s endless nut supplies) is a smashing way to wind down just before you head out for an evening meal at one of the nearby restaurants. An arm could march on the hot and delicious breakfast Pamela prepared for us each morning I just hope Indy wasn’t too put out by having to eat the left over sausages! Pamela has a true gift in hospitality and in thinking of everything to make her guests comfortable, we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a very special place to stay when visiting Yosemite and the surrounding area. Take care Pam and hope to see you again.

Given the other good reviews, Big Creek Inn sounds like a nice B&B, but our experience might impact someone else considering this B&B. We reserved the Mariposa room for five nights nine months in advance. As we fine tuned our itinerary for our three week trip, we added a night somewhere else and subtracted a night from Big Creek Inn deciding to stay four nights instead of five. I requested the change two months before our arrival. We were charged a $50 fee for “changing” our reservation. As our trip drew closer, the Rim fire in Yosemite made visibility and air quality in the park questionable (as viewed on the webcam and evening news), and we decided to postpone our visit to Yosemite until the spring. We were charged another $50 change fee. In the end, we decided to cancel our trip entirely (and I have to say it was in part because the $50 charges left a bad taste in my mouth so I was not looking forward to staying here). We canceled our reservation, eight months in advance. You guessed it. We were charged another $50 change/cancellation fee. In total, $150 was deducted from our deposit. I appreciate that bed and breakfasts are small businesses and must have a cancellation policy. However, unforeseeable and unexpected circumstances (such as wildfires and federal government shutdowns) can cause itineraries to change and we are, after all, just working people too. The changes to our reservation were not last minute and were made well in advance of our stay. For a B&B to charge $50 over and over just to make a “change” to a reservation is unreasonable in my view. This is not an industry “standard.” The majority of bed and breakfasts at which we have stayed charge a cancellation fee/penalty when the reservation is cancelled inside of 14 days. And I have never encountered a charge for making a “change” to a reservation, let alone a $50 charge. We stay at bed and breakfasts exclusively and this is without exception the strictest and most costly cancellation policy we have ever come across. I admit, the change/cancellation policy is posted on the website and I bear responsibility for not reading it closely. I even get a $50 cancellation fee, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it. If this expensive experience has taught me anything, it is to read any and all cancellation policies very closely in the future. That said, if you decide to stay here, make sure you are aware of the fees, which not only apply to cancellations (understandable) but also any changes you may make to your reservation.

This reviewer has intentionally misled the reader. When the original reservation was changed, no fee was charged and their deposit was carried forward at full value. When the reservation was cancelled and rescheduled, no fee was charged and their deposit was carried forward at full value. When the reservation was cancelled and not rescheduled, their deposit was returned less cancellation fees. Had the reviewer kept any one of the reservations, no cancellation fee would have been charged and their deposit would have been honored at full value. In fact, there could not have been any “bad taste” as no fees were applied during the one year’s time that we accommodated the reviewer’s changes. Our cancellation policy is consistent with industry standard and is fully communicated on our website as well as our reservation confirmation form. As always, we will continue to do our best to accommodate the needs of our guests. ~Pamela~Owner/Innkeeper

We booked into Big Creek on the recommendations in Trip Advisor and were not disappointed. Just as the other reviewers found, the room was perfectly clean and luxurious. Pamela's recommendations on where to go in Yosemite were spot on: we followed her suggestions and had a great time. The nearby restaurant was an excellent recommendation and the deli about 200 yards away supplied excellent sandwiches and good value wine! Breakfast - fantastic, and enjoyable company.

My husband Dave and I spent two nights in the Mariposa Room at the Big Creek Inn in Fish Camp, CA. Located a very short distance from the entrance of Yosemite NP, the inn is a fine example of the best type of BnB experience. The Inn is kept exceptionally clean, it is quiet, the bath and bed are luxurious, and the breakfasts were delicious. Innkeeper Pamela is doing an incredible job with this inn. We wholeheartedly recommend this inn to fellow travelers.

My husband Chuck and I just spent 2 nights at Big Creek Inn. All aspects of the B & B are very comfortable and spacious. Pamela is there to give you first-hand advice about how to make the best time of your visit to the park and to serve you a beautiful breakfast. She also had a steaming pot of coffee (that 1st cup) available in the upstairs lounge in the AM as I got ready for the day -- a little thing that really makes this traveler feel good. The B & B is located right near the South entrance to the park -- close to the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoia trees. Great hospitality !!

We recently stayed at the Big Creek Inn and had a marvelous experience. We stayed in the Mariposa room and enjoyed it's amenities and meadow views for 2 nights in September. It provided a clean, comfortable and luxurious retreat after exploring Yosemite, just 2 miles away. Pamela has a true gift of hospitality, thinking of everything to make her guests comfortable. Each morning Pamela prepared a delicious hot breakfast and offered expert advice on the best places to visit in the park. She also made valuable suggestions about nearby restaurants and stores. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Big Creek Inn and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a very special place to stay when visiting Yosemite.
