“Exceeded our expectations”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2012

As is clear from the previous reviews, this is an exceptional B&B experience that offers a consistent level of attention to detail and gracious hospitality. We too stayed in the Mariposa room and it is spacious and immaculate.

What struck us most about Big Creek Inn is that the Innkeepers have really thought through what it means to provide a relaxing and welcoming experience. I just can't imagine anyone does it better in the Yosemite area. Pam is also a great trail guide, and directs and plans folks day(s) to match their interest and skill level if you so wish.

The Inn is just outside the South Park entrance, easy access to Mariposa Grove and without all the frantic crowds of the Yosemite Valley.

If you choose to stay at Big Creek Inn, I can't imagine how you would be disappointed, and if/when we get back to Yosemite, we will once again stay at Big Creek. If you are fortunate enough to go in May or June, and the stream is running, you have fishing right out your backyard. If you go in winter, there is a fantastic DVD collection in case you are snowed in, or the satellite dish loses reception for a few hours. They really have given great thought to how to make this a great vacation experience.

If you are traveling with a group of 6, and you planning well ahead, you can book the entire house. That's my plan for the next trip.

Thanks Pam and John for a great stay, and definitely heed Pam's advice to do the Glacier Point drive, and the Sentinel Dome and Taft Point hike. It is awe inspiring.

Room Tip: Loved the Mariposa room.

We had a great time at this bed and breakfast. Pam and John are wonderful hosts and are so knowledgable about Yosemite. The website is good and does not mislead (as often happens). You are a bit outside the park but still close enough. The cool nights are so refreshing and a good breakfast with just about everything. The outdoor patio was so convenient -a good place to relax. It really felt like we were coming home every day. The historic Wawona hotel is close and has great food and drinks and seems to welcome guests from the area. We hope to go back to this special place.

Summary: Extraordinary in every detail. Run, don't walk.

It's Yosemite. All lodging prices are high, and Big Creek Inn is no exception. The difference is that across the board Big Creek Inn delivers two dollars of value for every dollar spent.

I have never seen a place that with respect to decor, furnishings, logistics and layout balances 5* metrics with innkeeper personality. In the middle of a nine day swing from LA, Kings Canyon, Fresno, Yosemite, Mammoth and work in Las Vegas, we arrived at 3 PM after doing Glacier Point and the top half of the Four Mile Trail. It was unseasonably hot and we both showed it. The previous three nights we had been to the Fresno Courtyard, John Muir Lodge in Grants Grove/Kings Canyon (ugh) and back to the Fresno Courtyard. Did I say it was hot? Like 86 F at 3 PM.

While entering our key code Pam and John, the innkeepers, happened by. John insisted on helping us up the easy flight of stairs with our luggage--which given the length of the trip was substantial. We entered the Mariposa Room, and sighed with amazement. A spacious two hundred sq ft landing area from opened: the master bath with large tub and sink, a large water closet room with a second sink, and the walk-in closet.

You walk down a slight step into the room. A well made up best hotel quality king bed quality linened and comforter cosseted, nice eating table, large screen tv, patio stone cornered gas stove for heat and lovely outside balcony.

Nice--you bet. We both sighed with relief. Our idea of camping is a good Holiday Inn, and the last three nights we had definitely been roughing it.

Because we were there in mid June, we left each morning at first light to avoid crowds. John made sure that at 5 AM coffee was ready. He packed a large lunch bag of breakfast and quality snacks (think whole almonds or cashew nuts) set up and grab and go.

One night we went out to dinner, and Pam called and made our reservation as it was Father's Day, a busy time. The second night we self-catered and Pam loaned us her big salad bowl so we could toss our salad.

The wifi was fine for checking email and light surfing -tablet and phone. We didn't stress it further. It probably could have been stronger with the ready addition of an upstairs wireless access point. Not a biggie, though.

Finally: everything is immaculate and everything is built with a quality seldom seen these days in construction (I'm an engineer by birth and notice such things wherever I travel).

Cons: We missed breakfast at the inn both mornings. Sigh--I bet it was terrific. The Mariposa room has the small step between the entrance foyer and the main room area. With so many places in the world to see, I don't know if we will ever get back to Yosemite; but if we do we will stay here.

Room Tip: It's Yosemite, reserve far in advance.

I stayed at the Big Creek Inn with my fiancee for three nights while exploring the beautiful sights of Yosemite and we were both extremely impressed with every aspect of our stay! The property itself is located only a pleasant drive from the park and very close to a fantastic general store to pick up any essentials (and deli sandwiches for long hikes!). The owners Pam and John are wonderfully attentive hosts, and nothing is too much trouble (even providing ice packs, snacks and spare rucksacks for a long days walk!) John even made the effort to show us around our room and answer any questions we may have had about our stay, despite us showing up belatedly at nearly 11 at night!

We stayed in the Mariposa room which was immaculately clean, spacious and tastefully furnished, with a fantastic large bathroom and tub to soak tired feet in at the end of a long day!

Breakfast was wonderful, with a selection of fresh pastries, cereals, fruit, cheese and porridge to choose from, the spread was more varied and tasty than that we've experienced at many a fancy resort or hotel chain!

Pam is also extremely helpful and enthusiastic in aiding guests to tailor their days in the park to ideally suit their interests and fitness levels which is invaluable for the first time visitor; her personal insights really allowed us to get the best of our three day experience and were very much appreciated, to my mind it is for this level of personal service and a 'home away from home' feel that I would encourage anyone planning a trip to book at the Big Creek Inn, you will not regret the decision, we certainly didn't!

Many thanks Pam and John for a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: the Mariposa Room is beautiful, spacious and the perfect sanctuary to return to after a busy day exp...

We spent 2 nights in late June at the Big Creek Inn. Everything is as described on the Inn’s website and we were pleased with all aspects of our stay. It was a great experience and we would recommend the inn to anyone looking for a relaxing place to stay in the area. Thanks, Pamela and John.
The inn is two miles from the south entrance to Yosemite and an enjoyable 45 minute drive to Yosemite Valley. We absolutely loved the constantly varying contrasts of brilliant greens and browns on the winding road from the inn to the valley.
Our hosts, Pamela and John, were very welcoming and made us feel at home. They are knowledgeable about the area and gave us great recommendations for evening dining and for a daytime itinerary in Yosemite Valley.
We made our plans on fairly short notice and the only room available was the Merced, which is the smallest of the three rooms at the inn. The room was clean, well maintained, and the bed was comfortable … which was all we really needed since we spent most of our time away from the inn. We availed ourselves of the great selection of DVDs in the evenings and enjoyed the convenience of early morning coffee in the common area upstairs. Both mornings, Pamela prepared a delicious and hearty, warm breakfast so we did not experience the buffet.
PS, don’t miss Glacier Point … spectacular views from high above the valley.

My husband and I recently visited Yosemite and stayed at this bed and breakfast. The fact that it is outside the park should not dissuade anyone from staying here. Yes, there is a drive of 45-60 minutes to reach Yosemite Valley, but it is a beautiful drive and staying outside the hub-bub is actually a relief.
The breakfast every morning was tasty with a good variety of items to choose from, including eggs, steel cut oatmeal, fresh fruit, yogurt, etc. More than enough to satisfy. On the day we left early, the breakfast and lunch to go got us through breakfast as well as snacking along the trail.
Rooms were clean, well appointed, and warm with the gas stove feature. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope some day to return.
