A Victorian styled Bed & Breakfast with an afternoon Tea Time added for good measure. Our wedding party rented the entire facility for six days. We were pampered, fawned over, instructed and advised as to local points of interest, tolerated because there were small children in our party, and warmly accepted by the entire staff. We were able to block out reality and enjoy the ambiance of the occassion to the max.

My husband and I recently stay in the Rose Suite at The Gingerbread Mansion. Our room was wonderful (though we can’t imagine any of the rooms that wouldn’t be!). The Gingerbread is one of the top B & Bs we’ve stayed in (and we've stayed in many across the nation). There was a lot more to see and do in the area than what our one day allowed ... next time we'll stay longer and do more exploring!

The afternoon tea and scones were delicious as was the gourmet breakfast (don't miss the homemade granola!).

Thanks again for a wonderful stay! We look forward to our next visit!

We have visited Ferndale many times for the Humboldt County Fair. The Gingerbread Mansion was, by far, our best stay ever. The inn is off main street, so it is very quiet - in fact, the inn was booked, but we felt we were the only ones there due to the silence. The hosts were more than accommodating and the gorgeous gardens were so soothing. We loved the fact that they had a little kitchen for the guests to use which had a refrigerator, microwave, dishes and utensils for those restaurant leftovers or to chill a bottle of wine. We stayed in the Gingerbread Suite which had its own private balcony overlooking a beautiful garden setting. My husband even enjoyed the inn and he is not much of a person for B and B's. So kudos to the owners and staff of this inn, we will certainly keep the inn in mind for our future visits to Ferndale and cherish the memories of our recent stay. Thank you.

We were very disappointed with our stay at the Gingerbread Mansion. We visit Ferndale every Summer on our way to Washington to visit our daughter. We have always stayed in the Victorian Inn or Shaw House and have always loved our stay at these fine establishments. But we decided to try the Gingerbread Mansion based on the wonderful reviews it got on tripadvisor. Unfortunately we cannot agree with the positive reviews. Our first disappointment came at the location of the Gingerbread. It was not located on adorable Main Street. Instead it was located on a creepy and run-down side street. The houses around the Gingerbread are dilapidated and the people walking around this area made me uncomfortable. But we brushed aside our disappointment and hoped for the best inside. Disappointment again. The Gingerbread was dark, drafty, dusty and musty. Our room was terribly dark even with all the lights turned on and the window opened-up. The room was also drafty as if the window was not sealed properly. And in a town as foggy as Ferndale we feel it is important to have a room with a window that seals properly. The whole Mansion was dusty and not cleaned properly. And a musty odor filled the air. I just hate bed and breakfasts that are dark and smell old and dirty. And we did feel that the innkeepers were somewhat arrogant and not as friendly as the staff at the Victorian Inn or Shaw House. I cannot recommend the Gingerbread Mansion. In fact, I am wondering if their friends are writing all of the positive reviews? We will be staying at the Victorian Inn on our next stay to Ferndale.

Management response from gingerbreadgang, owner
(Management representative)
Aug 14, 2008
This review may be a case of "seller's regret" or someone who is looking forward to their next bad vacation. In the thousands of people who visit us each year, no one has ever said any sort of negative thing about the town, the street, the people who live and walk here? Very strange. Our street on Berding is one of the finest examples of restored Victorian homes on the west coast...hundreds of people each month stand on the corners and take pictures of not only our house, but the entire street of beautiful "butterfat palaces." Just refer to any of our other 48 reviews and go to our web site, because what you see is what you really get. We wouldn't be ranked #1 in Ferndale by Trip Adviser if any of derbydog's comments were true. We stand on our record of very happy guests, many, many of whom return time after time after time...

After a stay in San Francisco, we wanted to visit the Redwoods in Northern California and Victorian Ferndale seemed a logical location. I looked for B&Bs in the area and found the Gingerbread Mansion's website. Based on other reviews in TripAdvisor, we booked two nights. The decor is wonderful, quaint Victorian, the gardens are superb and the owners are delightful. They know the area extremely well and are very helpful in finding places to explore.

The "gourmet breakfasts" are just that--superb. We had very different meals both days, very fresh and innovative.

As an early riser, their rigid 9 am breakfast was a nuisance for me, but didn't deter from the overall experience. Every room in the Mansion is a delight, even the smaller ones.

You can't go wrong with this stay. The town of Ferndale is worth a day of exploring and this is a good base from which to do it.
