“OK Hotel, Bad Neighborhood and Not a Good Value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

Room was clean, beds comfortable. Towels were scarce, breakfast was not good, seemed old and a little rundown. More like a bargain motel than a Clarion Hotel. Free wireless was so slow I sued my own mobile hotspot. Really if it were in a better part of town i think i would have rated it better. Other than the Target there was no where to walk to, i was expecting a quaint downtown location and what I got was the industrial part of town.

We stay at this hotel for a total of two weeks every year. The staff is very friendly and actually know us by name when we walk in. There are two sections, the newer and the older. The beds are very comfortable, and all needs are quickly attended to. Nice breakfast, and light dinner available (mostly salad and soup). There is a very low employee turn over, which says a lot to me. All the king size beds are on the Hwy 101 side, so can be a bit noisy if you leave your window open.

The outside, the lobby, the breakfast room, all look lovely - and to be fair, they may have some nice rooms - however, if you decide to try this hotel, look at the room before deciding. Look also at the adjacent buildings and the area. I spent the night at this hotel and let me assure you this was the very worst room I have ever stayed in.

After driving 6 hours with a very active 6 year old in the car, we needed to be done for the day. When we got to the room it looked dingy and poor surrounds but figured we could air out the room, give it a good spray of Lysol, turn on the air conditioner and we'd be ok. Once unpacked, I discovered the A/C on high cool didn't get the room as cool as the 60 degrees outside. So tried to open the window - didn't open. Emptied a half large can of Lysol in the room and it still smelled so bad we could barely breathe. (I was told at check in this was the last room with a King Bed - which we needed). Turned on the bathroom fan hoping to circulate some air - and went to dinner. It was no better when we got back but were so exhausted we decided to tough it out. Later noticed dirt a quarter inch thick on the drapes; the cream colored sheers were brown. And the kicker, the child found previous tenants trash on the floor.

To their credit, the mattress was comfortable, the free breakfast looked ok - though we didn't eat. We just wanted to be GONE from this place!

When I told the desk clerk at checkout how bad the room was and that we'd found garbage on the floor - she said well you should have let the front desk know and we'd have come picked it up. {Really? How about a vacuum?}

The clerk at check in was pleasant and efficient and friendly.

Room Tip: On the advise of a comment on Trip Advisor, I requested a room away from the road. After being ther...

Pros: The beds were comfortable, the shower was decent. It had continental breakfast with a wafflemaker. Wireless. The service was very friendly and accommodating, letting us move rooms when our A/C unit didn't work.

Cons: There was a lack of electrical outlets. The A/C in our original room didn't work and that room's toilet kept running. The doors' card key locks didn't lock on the rooms, but we were told it was due to the recent rain. The deadbolt kept it locked, however.

The hotel is actually closer to Arcata. We drove around looking for the best deal and the Clarion was the most accommodating and flexible. The rooms were clean. The carpets are all dark and the ceilings low, giving it a very dated and dirty look, but the place is actually quite clean. Comfortable stay and sleep. Very quiet. The best breakfast on our road trip. Warm, hard boiled eggs with the shell on!!! Not like the bag of already shelled, cold eggs at the Marriott chain of hotels. Danishs, bread, butter. We ate soooo much. The staff was very friendly and hospitable. Our family probably provided them with weeks of conversation as they smiled and nodded at us constantly. We were on a road trip and often I felt like the hunter and gatherer as I foraged for food. The kids couldn't get enough of the breakfast. Changed my perception of Clarions since the only other one I stayed at was in Bentonville, Arkansas. We'll be back to this one. We'd recommend it above the Best Westerns in the area.

Room Tip: The front desk gave us all the keys so we can look the roms over and check to make sure our son'...

We stayed overnight in Eureka in March. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. The free dinner of vegetarian soup and salad was a real blessing, as it not only saved us money, but we were tired and didn't have to go out to find food. Hot breakfast was nice too.

Each month we spend the weekend here with our grandchildren. We love the convenience of breakfast onsite and the light dinner in the evening. Always clean and staff is very nice. Pool was not open last time we stayed so the kids were bummed but they have to update it to handicapped accessible they said. We prefer the inside main building as we do not smoke, have pets and like being able to take the kids down for breakfast without going outside. The other buildings are detached and they allow pets in them. I have asthma so this is not a good deal for me plus the other buildings are older and kind of worn down. Overall a good value and one of the better choices in Eureka proper. Target within walking distance.

Room Tip: Inside main building for newer rooms. check to see if pool has reopened if this is important.
