Humboldt Bay, along with the adjoining Arcata Bay, dominate the landscape around Eureka. It's not always easy to get to the bay, though, and it lacks footpaths along much of it.
We took the enjoyable Madaket cruise a long time ago and the little ship still offers cruises around the bay. It provides nice views.
We like to go over the bridge to the Samoa spit. The ocean side is rough and ragged and you can walk for miles along the beach. If you are lucky enough to be there during a storm, the waves are really wild on the north jetty!
The inner harbour is quiet and calm. We often drive over to Woodley Island to stroll along the boats in the marina. The restaurant there has a great view from the patio.
As you drive around the Eureka / Arcata area, the bay is never far away. Highway 101 goes right along it just north of Eureka. One time my Mum and I got sandwiches at Ray's and parked the car so we could see the bay as we ate them. It was too cold and windy to sit outside ... on a June day!
We are RVers, and I do wish that there was at least one modern RV park in the area that had a bay view!
