“The "Old Gem" is on its way back!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 weeks ago

We have been staying here for over 30 years. This hotel has seen better days but also bad days, closed for some years. However, the new owners are trying very hard to bring her back to the stately and elegant hotel she once was. There are pictures in the gorgeous lobby showing the hotel in her heyday. The owners are slowly (Smart in this economy) remodeling the entire hotel. The Bristol Rose room is now open and we had a very nice meal with excellent service. The breakfast is the usual fare but we were told the coffee-shop will be opening so may have room service very soon.

Room Tip: We have stayed on the third floor and the ground floor. Both were very quiet. We love staying here.

It is an old hotel, with an enormous amount of charm. I was delighted at the leather sofa and chair in my hotel room. The room was huge. I could have stayed there a week and never felt that I was in a hotel. The lobby was beautifully decorated with Hollywood type charm. We were there on a Sunday and so didn't get to try the bar or restaurant. But the desk staff were wonderful, even unlocking doors to show us the ballroom that Robert once gave a speech in. Seriously charming hotel.

No service at all in lounge. Many people walked out. We also did after standing at bar waiting to bartender to look up. Gave up and left. Only 3 other people so no reason for bad attitude. Just would not waste your time

We are very sorry for your experience. This is not a common occurrence in our lounge, but I have addressed the problem with our bar supervisor to ensure that this does not happen again. Once again we are sorry that we did not provide great guest service, but we hope that you will give us another chance in the future.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2015

This property is centrally located to all the Restaurants and cool shops in downtown Eureka. It is still being renovated but all the rooms are clean, the beds new and comfortable as are the bathrooms. This Hotel brings you back to the early 1900's with it's huge fireplace as the centerpiece. They have a funky little bar and restaurant but downtown Eureka has so many neat
place's to go and in walking distance we choose to do that. This has great value for the price.

Room Tip: All rooms have been renovated

As recently as the 1990s the Eureka Inn was a social and business hub for this small city, with locals having relatives stay here, businesses and non-profits holding meetings, and locals gathering in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Those days are gone! Now the current unscrupulous owners chase customers away with moldy rooms, rude employees and a loud, sleazy bar that keeps visitors awake, and a non-functioning wi-fi, repeatedly shafting organizations and businesses who remember the old days and hope they will come back. With many fine places to stay in Eureka, you should avoid this place like the locals do, and hope someone decent will buy and renovate it.

Thank you for your review of our hotel. I am sorry that we failed to provide you with great service. We are in the process of restoring this historic hotel and will be done by next year. We now only rent our new rooms and are renovating our old rooms and have installed more wireless access points for increased WiFi coverage. We welcome the ongoing support of the local community and we have hosted many organizations and their events at our Inn. Also we have also revived many past traditions of the Inn such as the Christmas tree celebration, free concerts with Orchestras, choirs, etc. We will also be offering free live music, dance performances, and art events in our lobby starting in January 2015 and we hope you will give us another chance once everything have been completed.

This is only a review of the Bristol Rose Cafe in the Eureka Inn. We had dinner and it was surprisingly good and at a reasonable price. Unique presentation of French Onion Soup with a whole onion fish and chips with home made potato chips .Beef stew was very tasty.
Overall, service a 7, food a 8. Played Sinatra music, very soothing.

Room Tip: ask for a remodeled room not near the elevator..

What can I add to all the other reviews? I think you either love or hate the place. In the family some thought the place ok others didn't. It is a bit weird to be honest - the lobby is a bit like a film set (scary movie type) and the 1930s music a little odd. All the locked doors, empty ballrooms and rooms full of furniture make it a bizarre place to wander through. However the rooms we had were clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast wasn't up to much but plenty places nearby. If you are ok with the place being under restoration it's fine.

Thank you for your review of our hotel. We are happy to hear you enjoyed our newly remodeled rooms and that our staff was helpful and friendly. We are scheduled to be done with the restoration of this historic 1922 hotel next year. We hope that you can come back and see all the changes when everything is complete.
