“Amazingly beautiful nude beach in the middle of the forest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2012

Very laid back and secluded spot to strip down to your natural self and enjoy one of the best beaches the North Coast has to offer. Shallow coastline, soft sandy beach, and surrounded on all sides by redwoods. Paradise? I thought so. On some week days you can come down here and have the beach all to yourself, but even when it's busy you'll never see more than a couple dozen people. As long as your respectful to others and don't do anything indecent, the park police won't give you any trouble.

Here's the directions:

From Eureka, go north on Highway 101 and take the Trinidad turnoff. At the first intersection turn right onto Patrick's Point Drive and follow it a little ways until you pass the Ocean Grove Lodge. A few seconds after that you'll see Anderson Street. Hang a left there. Take this curving road slowly. At the end of this road, take a right. The dirt road to College Cove will be on your left within a minute or so. Turn left, drive down the dirt road, and pull into the parking area on the right hand side.

At the end of the lot will be a large walking path. Walk this path for about 5 minutes or so until you see a clearly visible opening in the foliage on the left side. Take this trail down to the beach. It's not a tough trail, but it's been a long while since it's been maintained so watch your step.

Once you get to the beach the nude section is just past the rocks on your left hand side.

Enjoy!

“Okay beach spot”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2012

Nice location, but very popular. Too many people for my taste for a nor-cal beach.

“secluded beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2012

This beach is protected from wind by surrounding cliffs. It is very picturesque with small islands offshore and small waterfalls. Don't be surprised by nudity this beach tends toward clothing optional. Also, the paths and steps getting down to the beach can be steep but pretty walk.

“Gorgeous spot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2012

Exceptionally beautiful, a little hard to get to with trails down, used by some as a nude beach, but not so much any more. State park folk frown on it.

“College Cove my favorite beach in Humboldt”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2008

College Cove is an amazing beach as you can tell in the pictures. You can walk along the beach and see little waterfalls and watch the surf roll in. This beach is nice because there is shade to protect you from the sun and logs to sit on. College Cove is really protected from the wind and big surf. Many local surfers go here when the swell is really big to surf some mellow sets. I felt like I was in Hawaii when I sunbathed here and listened to birds singing. There is a bit of a hike down which is more difficult going back up. My mom did fine and she is healthy and in her early 60's. Just take it slow because it is a bit steep.
Getting to College Cove Beach:

* From Eureka, take US 101 north
* Take the turnoff for Trinidad and go toward the ocean on Main Street
* Where the road curves leftward, turn right onto Stage Coach Road
* Go past the entrance to Trinidad State Beach, 0.7 miles total
* Turn left where you see a small sign (that says College Cove) at the entrance to a dirt parking lot

The trail starts at the north end of the parking lot. (This trail is a nice walk if you keep going straight, it is very flat and has nice lookouts) Just a little ways on this trail and you will see a path to your left going down towards the beach. The path has steps to make it easier but it still is a little challenging.
