“Brilliant food choices at Hotel Faraggi”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

We had eaten here many times and always enjoyed Eleni's home cooking, but with three discerning vegetarians staying with us we visited a few more times, and they were really pleased with the choices on offer; don't think that they were expecting to get much more than a Greek salad, so we were happy all round!
Words do not describe the location of this fantastic place. The view over the Viros Gorge is second to none; a tasty lunch listening to the bird song, with the warm autumn sunshine and even warmer welcome from Eleni and Vagelis, looking up to Profitis Ilias at the head of the gorge, there is nowhere like it, and we never tire of it.

We had eaten here a number of times over the past three years but stayed here last night at very short notice. We are always struck by the reception we have had and last night was no exception. The room was comfortable and spotlessly clean with a balcony which gave brilliant viewson to the Viros Gorge and the Taygetos. Food is home cooked and our request for an early breakfast was met without any difficulty. 40 euros a night for bed and breakfast, so very good value. Highly recommended.

Eleni and Vagelis who run this hotel could not be more helpful and obliging. The food is tasty down to earth Greek home cooking with seasonal produce; no written menu;Eleni will just tell you what she has in her kitchen. The wine is served by the glass or half litre, and there was some delicious kokinelli wine made by the monks on Mount Athos where Vagelis still has connections.
The views from the covered terrace are fabulous, as the hotel overlooks the Viros Gorge. From the road, you have no idea how spectacular the view of the gorge and the snowcapped Taygetos mountains will be, until you emerge from the top of the stairs; it is quite simply breathtaking.
There are a couple of tables indoors by a large glass window if it is too cold for the roof to be open, these views are almost as impressive.
The hotel is open throughout the year; there was a log fire and impromptu singing and guitar playing when we were last there (October 2012) I am writing this as we are planning our next visit at the end of April.
We have stayed in the rooms which are basic but clean and tidy. There are balconies attached to the rooms with chairs and a small table so you can sit and take in the views over the gorge.
We thoroughly recommend it as a base for exploring the area or for a relaxing lunch on a fine day, followed or preceded by a walk in the Viros gorge.
