“Very nice, good for families if they don't mind driving.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

Stayed for 1 week while visiting San Diego and all the major attractions. Didn't really check out the resort amenities other than the pool opposite our villa and the restaurant.

Our villa was in Pelican Hill unit 2221 within Villas on the Green. Our villa was on the street/parking lot level which was great for unloading car etc. There was a level below and above us. We were fortunate that the whole resort was very quiet during our stay and never had anyone staying above us until our last night.

The villa was very clean, well equipped and looked like it may have been recently upgraded as the carpet seemed almost new and so did some of the furnishings. My only complaint would be the bathroom, I personally hate tiled showers and glass doors, they are always moldy and grubby looking. Also there was no handles on any of the kitchen or bathroom cupboards, it was so annoying having to grab the edge of the panel every time.

It had a great sized deck with plenty of seating, we were on the corner and nicely shaded by a tree. The shutters in the room do a great job of keeping the place cool and we rarely used the air conditioning. The doors were solid so we didn't hear any noise from the fridge during the night, which has been a pain in other places we've stayed.

We were straight across from the pool which was very handy for just running over in our swimsuits. Overall the villa was very spacious and we loved every minute of it, the bed was comfy and we slept great.

It was very easy to get to places from the resort, although it did take 30 min to 45 mins drive to zoo, sea world, downtown etc. Less than 20 mins took us to the beach or places like Walmart for stocking up on essentials.

Room Tip: Corner units have larger decks. 2nd Floor villas are street level so no climbing stairs.

Such a beautiful area! Views vary depending on what unit you are in. Amenities are near by if you stay on Pelican Hill. Wonderful pool area for families. Waterslide, splash pad, several pools. Shopping area always has sales. Theater on sight . Golf course is beautiful. Surrounding areas of Temecula, safari parkland the San Diego zoo. Those are must sees. Drove to Carlsbad ,beach town so quaint and you have to eat at Harbour Fish. Did the hop on hop off trolley in San Diego. Again a must do. Coronado beach is fabulous! Great to be away from the hubbub in San Diego but close enough to do all the attractions. Off to Disneyland for the day tomorrow. The Welk Resorts are over the top!

I love the facilities here. My children loved the pool, water slides and the golf courses. Everything is well kept and the staff is friendly and they go out of their way to help you with any request. 30 minutes to Sea World or 15 minutes to the beach make this a great place to stay. My only two complaints are that this resort has the WORST television and internet service of any resort I have ever stayed at. TV has fuzzy picture and the wireless is SUPER SLOOOOOOOOOOOWWWW and even when it does work you have to keep logging back in. These two factors definitely lead to my average review for this place.

The Welk resort is a very nice, high quality facility that is well maintained with lots of amenities. If you don't want to spend your entire week at the resort and like to drive, then this is the place for you since it is 15-45 minutes away from virtually everything else. We exchanged into the Welk since it was the only property we could find in the San Diego area when we wanted to visit with family living in Del Mar. Not the most convenient, since it was about a 40 minute drive to Del Mar, but it was better than losing the week we had deposited. The property is nicely maintained; our 2-bedroom unit which was one of the first units built, was in excellent condition and looked out over a small pond and the golf course. In addition to visiting with family we did tour one of the wineries about 20-25 minutes north of the resort. While we didn't use them, there are multiple swimming pools and recreational facilities. I did play golf on the executive course which was very well maintained and challenging for players of all skill levels. The changing elevations and beautiful scenery were wonderful. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We signed up for a sales presentation (which was pleasant and low pressured) and were given our gift certificates even before we attended the presentation. We used the certificates for food at the restaurant that night which was quite good and later in the week for golf. It's easy to understand why people who live within a day's drive come to the resort every year.

This resort is quite close to our home and while I drive by it often, we have never stayed there until recently. While it's a bit away from everything, it's a beautiful resort. The grounds are very nicely maintained and there were so many activities to enjoy. We stayed in one of the older villas that had been updated in 2012. While it might not have been as gorgeous as some of the newer villas, we really loved how big and open it was. The floor plan was great. It was a 2 bedroom, each with it's own "wing", the large kitchen and family room were in-between the bedrooms.

The kids really loved trying out the different pools and water slides. Two of the pools have water slides. We visited 3 of there pools while there, and each one had it's own activity center.
Each weekend evening, we took advantage of the "movie at the pool." The kids loved being able to hang out in the pool and watch a movie at the same time. You could make s'mores as you watched as well. We never left the resort, just enjoyed the time together as a family at the resort.

We took advantage of having a full kitchen and made most of our meals in the condo. The food options within the resort or at the pools are limited. There is a pizza hut and small restaurant at the entrance of the resort. It's far enough from most of the villas that you will need to drive to it. They did serve burgers and hot dogs one the weekend at one of the pools and those were quite tasty, but it's not open all of the time. If you plan ahead and bring food with you, it works out great and saves you money!

The resort was a bit unorganized and sometimes the staff was less than friendly, but overall it was a very nice trip. We just focused on having fun and enjoying our time together. We would certainly go back again.

I will say be wary of the timeshare presentation. They have a nice facility and it may be great to own there, that should sell itself. Unfortunately, the sales staff resorts to lies to sell the weeks and that's a real turn off.

We stay at Welk several times a year and love the experience. The facilities are great and it is conveniently located for (relatively) short drives to the ocean, San Diego Zoo, amusement parks, and the wine country. You can also take a beautiful 2 hour drive to Palm Springs. They have a couple of areas they need to work on: 1) The check-in process can be inefficient (don't expect to get in early); 2) The policy of opening the pool facilities to "day-trippers" can overload the pool and surrounding parking, especially in the Mountain Resort (so try the other pools); 3) The rates for golf are fairly expensive for the executive course and par-3 course (but nearby courses can be cheap); and 4) The convenience store on-site is very poorly stocked (so bring what you need). Overall, it is an outstanding resort with a good little restaurant, friendly staff, and a lot of facilities and events to keep you and the kids busy.

Room Tip: Bottom floor rooms are convenient when you want to be able to walk from your patio to the local faci...
