Having read many of the reviews of this property, I knew what to expect... a quiet, senior oriented, middle of the road resort in the middle of nowhere. And for the life of me, I couldn't understand why people were rating it so high. But the price was right (a timeshare week that we needed to use by the end of the month) and it provided a central base to San Diego and the Zoo, coastal beaches, and wine tasting. And we were looking forward to some warm weather and lazing around a pool. I never imagined I would add to the excellent reviews.
Finding the place was easy, and check-in was fast and friendly. Our one bedroom room in the Cascade building of Mountain Villas suited us perfectly - on the ground floor, private and quiet. The decor is rather Holiday Inn like, but clean and functional. For that matter, there is nothing glitzy or posh about this place, but the whole resort is really comfortable. After unpacking we noticed there were no coffee filters, so I made a note to get some. About 2 minutes later, there was a knock on the door and a nice lady handed us a few. Then hubby turned on the television in the living room and it wouldn't work. About the time he was ready to call there was another knock on the door. This time it was a gentleman to fix the TV. Apparently, not only does housekeeping check things out and make a report of deficient items, but even more surprising, someone actually follows up, and in a timely manner to boot!
By the end of our stay, I could understand why this resort gets excellent reviews. Quite simply, they just do what they do very well. It's the well-oiled machine that most timeshare resorts strive to be. It's also nice not to be hounded to take a timeshare tour. When we checked in we were asked if we wanted to, we said no thank you and that was it.
And if you want to go wine tasting while you're there, I highly recommend that you skip the Temecula area and head to the Ramona Valley. Look for my "Ramona Valley Wineries" review to get an idea of why I recommend this area and what to expect.
