“Peace and quiet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2012

The Welk Resort in San Diego is really in Escondido so be aware. This is a real quiet place mainly because an older crowd goes there, but it is super family friendly too!. There are water slides and great pools. IF you golf- this place is for you. It was real relaxing and quiet. The amenities are clean and we had lots of room too. The unit had a one bedroom, kitchen with a large refrigerator and dishwasher, stove and washer and dryer. The bathroom was spacious. Hint- Try not to get one of the lock off units because it a lot smaller and does not have an oven if you need one. The staff is real friendly. On Tuesdays they had live music and Italian food for sale. The grounds are well kept. I would go back again and I highly recommend it for families or if you just want some peace and quiet.

Room Tip: avoid a lock off if possible --get a true on bedroom unit

We and another couple stayed in a two bedroom unit the first week of January. Everything was wonderful. The unit was clean, spacious, and well appointed. Did the zoo, trolley, and harbor cruise in San Diego(two days). Visited the mission in San Juan Capistrano and the coast down to Torrey Pines. Played golf ( Fountains course ) and experienced the Temeculah Valley wine trail. Hung out at the rec center( pool , hot tub, family center). Weather cooperated, It was a wonderful vacation.

This is our 4th visit to this resort. We trade our timeshare to stay here. Beautiful weather we had last week, great to be by the pool (they have many here) or to go to the beach. Disneyland and/or Knotts Berry Farm is a 90 min drive away, not so bad. We did the Medieval Times Dinner (down the street from Knotts), and we had a blast. Check their website for a discount. For staying at Lawrence Welk, we stayed in a 2 bedroom, they have remodeled the older suites. New kitchen, everything was nice. Lots of space, and the highlight (if you have kids) is that the 2 bedrooms are far from each other. The rooms are huge, great bathrooms, and I would be surprised if anyone didn't like it here. You are a bit out in the country, but Carlsbad is only 20 min away (lots of restaurants). You can go to San Diego in less than an hour and also cross the border to have lunch in Mexico. If you don't mind driving a bit, this resort is a great stay. Lastly, there are very few resorts like this in California, Welk has a great golf course, multiple pools, water slides, lots of rec centers, a few place to eat, it reminds me of a top level resort in Hawaii or Mexico. Lastly, we did get suckered into the timeshare presentation, but we did land 6 free tickets to Knotts out of the deal. Nice sales rep, but we were there over 3 hours, and we already own somewhere else.

This was a beautiful resort which has lots to do for families. So many pools and each section has a center with pool tables and a big library selection. They offer lots for children and you kids can go to teen nights or cookie making and crafts for the younger ones. We tried the golf there and it was a fairly good course. The units are huge and offer everything you would need in the kitchen. Close to a few wineries to tour and they even have their own mini grocery store. We ate at the restaurant and was very good. This would be a fun place to go with a few families as the kids could head out to a pool on their own as it feels quite safe. You have to pass a security guy before you enter this huge complex. BBQ 's are everywhere as well.

Room Tip: We had a view of the golf course and was very peaceful.

We( 2 parents, 3 teenage kids) stayed here for 4 days as a time share exchange. We loved the place. The place is tucked away in mountains about 1/2 hour drive away from San diego).
The apartment came with 2 bedroooms, fully equipped kitchen, 2 full spacious bath rooms, big balcony that wraps the main hall & 2 bed rooms., washer dryer..
The front desk was very nice, We had a problem of naot having hot water the first day, bu the problem was taken care of immediately. The resort has a small grocery store, pizza hut, and a restaurant. They provide free fun golf lessons. They have lot of pools. In exchange for sitting thru a 90 minute time share presentation, we got 3 tickets for Safari park(worth $120).

We were here over Thanksgiving week (owners) and this has been our 5th year. We've enjoyed coming here because of proximity to family and the activities at the resort. We had 2 adults and 3 kids in a 2 bedroom first floor accomodations. First, the people upstairs were constantly moving chairs (ALL DAY) until 9pm, then started back up at 7am. YUCK! It's great place to be for the golf and daily activites. Too far to really go anywhere outside the resort - just know its a drive (went to Legoland and had a great time). The kids enjoyed the swimming pools and slides, but our 8 yr old son fell at the swimming pool (Mountain Springs) area when he was going to the waterslide (Slipped on wet concrete). He fell backwards hitting his head. After complaining of headaches we went to the dr to find out he had post-concussion syndrome. The other thing that was bad was the pool starts off like a beach and slowly deepens to 3 ft then deeper on the opposite end (with appropriate number depths) where the pool says 3 ft, its not- maybe at the sides only. My husband saw a little girl go under because she couldn't touch the bottom at the center when she could at the edge. Scary. Will we go again? Not sure.

My wife, my grown-up daughter, and I stayed in a two-bedroom of this resort for a week.
If you just want to do all the activities within the resort, it may deserve a 4; but if you plan to visit theme parks, museums etc. like us, it is a low 3.
Positives:
1. Recently renovated, so the inside looks new.
2. The guest room has two beds and two sinks.
3. (there may be more, but we went out everyday without using the resort facilities, so couldn’t comment.)
Negatives:
1. The TV set (a CRT tube), washer & dryer, and refrigerator are old and noisy.
2. The bathroom vent is very noisy.
3. It is far from any places. Grocery store: 5 miles, Balboa Park/San Diego Zoo: 38 miles, Sea World: 40 miles, Old Town Historic Park: 40 miles, Seaport Village: 36 miles, Coronado: 44 miles, Legoland: 22 miles.
4. When we approached the concession desk after checking in, the three staffs were not serving anyone, but each of them pointed finger to others and said, “She will help you.” We had to wait for a few seconds before one of them called us over.

Room Tip: a second-floor room
