Just came back from a three night stay at Harbor House. I have to say that it was somewhat disappointing for the price. The scenery is incomparable and the gardens are beautiful. But although the rooms are very nicely decorated and well kept, it is somewhat cold and aloof. This may be what the couples who stay here want but it doesn't compare well to other places we've stayed (eg Candlelight Inn in Napa). But the real problem in our minds was the food. Apparently the chef in quite new so perhaps that is the issue but the dinners were quite disappointing for a property of this calibre. One night we had something that I thought was impossible -- an inedible dessert. It was a huge clump of dried out bread pudding -- kind of like croutons with carmel sauce. The previous night we had really chewy stringy lamb. The appetizers and salads were always the best part of the meal. I wouldn't recommend against staying here but I would lower my expectations about the food. But perhaps the new chef will improve.
