This has been the default place we stay while visiting family in the area, as it's in a convenient location and reasonably priced and had always been pleasant and clean. We don't spend a lot of time at the hotel while there, so are able to overlook the fact that it's a bit dated.
Every time we've stayed, the rooms are impeccably clean and well-maintained, and were this time as well. The corridors are drab, and during this visit (in the south tower) the single operating elevator was SO SLOW, and there's no option to go up the stairs (though you can go down to exit, which we did and was much quicker). We had to compete for the elevator with hotel staff as well. So we spent a lot of time waiting for the elevator, AND waiting for the door to open while inside the elevator.
My biggest issue during this visit was the temperature of the room. It was unbearably hot inside, and when we tried turning on the A/C, all we got was warm air. I called the front desk, and the attendant informed me that the entire building was on heating mode, so there was no way to get cold air. Indeed, it was cool outside (with coastal fog), but certainly not cold (it is southern California, so it never really gets cold), but regardless, it was HOT in the room. When paying for a hotel room, I expect to get the temperature I want. We had to leave the giant window open, which was more like a door with a railing, and no screen. However, we got a lot of noise from Sepulveda Blvd, and during one night there must have been at least 20 emergency vehicles blaring down the street in the middle of the night. Very unpleasant.
The poor climate system actually means that I won't be staying there again. I can deal with a lot, but I can't sleep when hot.
