Location, location, location. This is one of two (three?) places to stay in El Portal and El Portal is 10 miles from the center of the park. Unless you stay in the park, this is the absolute best option. We could be in and out of the park in no time at all. Loved the location.
As far as the actually property goes.....it was lovely. The rooms were spacious (ours was actually huge!) and our view off our deck was onto the raging river. There is nothing like the sound of water rushing by. We went to the only small store in town and bought a bottle of wine and just sat on the deck and enjoyed the rushing river.
There are several restaurants on property but that is it in the town. Town is a generous term.
But did I mention the location!!!!
The inn keeper was a very nice lady. She set out cookies in the afternoon and provided a scrumptious breakfast. The only thing I thought was odd was that there was no refrigerator in the room and you couldn't use her refrigerator. She said it was health code (which may be entirely correct but if that is the case, every other B & B I have stayed in ignores that rule). It would have been nice to be able to chill our wine and drinks. I would absolutely return here and recommend it.
Just a side note so you are not surprised. While the back view is awesome, the B&B seems like it was built and the hotel/condos bought all the surrounding land and built all around and right up to them so they are literally tucked back in and amongst the surrounding buildings. This was a surprise to me and I feel bad for the owners that their lovely B & B in the mountains was subjected to the congestion of the condo complex. It is an interesting story if you ask her about it. Still would not hesitate to recommend.
