“Good experience, no cell or wifi”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2010

Clean motel. Reasonable for the price. Advertised wifi but only offered in hotel lobby for extra $9/day. Also very slow connection. No cell service available but could get service in Yosemite Village. Yosemite with snow is awesome.

We just got back today. I was very worried because of the bad reviews, what more can you expect in the middle of nowhere. It takes 30 mts to get to the valley. The room has the basic stuff, don't expect more. The staff were friendly.

I'm a photographer and needed a last minute hotel room in or near Yosemite National Park. The park lodge wall full, and I didn't want a tent or expensive room, so I picked the Cedar Lodge in El Portal.

The lodge is actually a 10-minute drive west of El Portal, making the drive from the lodge into Yosemite Valley about 30-minutes total.

The lodge is older, and you can tell that in the room and public spaces. The old in-room spa-tub is evidence of this. However, some things have been updated, like the new looking flat-screen TV. I found the room to be very spacious, providing lots of room for me and my gear.

The bed was very comfortable. I did find it odd that the room had no clock.

There is no cell-phone coverage at the hotel, and they charge for Internet access that is only available in the lobby. They charge for all calls from the room phones. So, if you want to communicate with the outside world while at the lodge, you will have to pay.

The on-property restaurant and bar is close and serves as your only local option for dining. I had a good experience there at dinner.

Overall, I would not describe this lodge as a destination itself. However, it provides a very good budget saving option for those who are wanting to spend their time in Yosemite.

This motel is clean and comfortable. It is close to the entrance of Yosemite National Park. The restaurant is adequate, but nothing special. However, you're really not going to have much choice. Eateries are far and few between. It's no frills, and really all you need for a couple of nights.

The position is excellent, just a few minutes far from Yosemite. The room was big and clean, with all facilities. We didn't enjoy the service at the restaurant, becuase we expected a lot of time before being served. For breakfast the old waitress was really hateful!

We booked Cedar Lodge because of the price, as we were on a budget trabelling around America. We were both a bit worries as we'd read some bad reviews, which are completely undeserved!!! The hotel is lovely, very quaint, it fits in with Yosemite surroundings. The rooms are large, modern and extremely comfortable. We had 2 double beds, a fridge, a great big TV, all in all it was fantastic, one of the best hotels we stayed in for all of our trip. The staff are lovely, very helpful and the location is fabulous, it only takes about 10-15 minutes to drive to Yosemite national park which was one of the most amazing places I've ever been. All in all it was a great stay and I'd highly recommend Cedar Lodge. The only thing is the internet only works in the lobby, but when you're in such a beautiful place why waste time online!
