On arrival the room was at the back overlooking the forest, and I was reminded from a scene in "Vacancy", at which point the chair blocked the door promptly! The room was OK, adequate for a couple of nights stay. It takes about 10 minutes to get to the park entrance. Yosemite was amazing, really beautiful. Having seen the accomodation in Yosemite it made the hotel/motel seem like luxury. As for the restaurants they are not that bad so don't listen to what others have said, and what you see is what you get, the rooms are exactly as shown on the website.

This property was excellent. The rooms were very clean and our location was perfect. We were right next to the BBQ area. We had a lovely time and will return again in the near future. Gift shop, breakfast buffet, front desk staff were all kind.
However, it would have been appreciated if there was an English speaking (and English understanding) person answering your phone when confirming our reservations. Definite language barrier! The restaurant that was off the bar, overlooking the pool, left a bit to be desired. We wanted a very basic order, no special requests (English speaking problem, again). It took 45 minutes to receive our food. The server had to be reminded 3 times about our soup and finally brought the soup when the rest of our meal was finished. The restaurant itself was clean and comfortable.
The area around the lodge is beautiful. Can't go wrong with fresh mountain air!

We should have known when our GPS tried to stop us at a different hotel that we should take the hint! It was obvious when we drove into the parking lot where people were loitering everywhere and none of them appeared to be like us, that the room would not live up to our expectations. Towels and pillows were limited and skimpy, no iron or ironing board, the wall mounted hair dryer only worked if you continuously pressed the on button (which would take 3 hands). I'm not sure if it was mold or dust but both my husband and I had difficulty with allergens while in the room. I showered with my flip flops on and could hardly wait to get out of there the next morning! I am not a germ-a-phobe but there was no way I was going to get into our in-room jacuzzi once I saw the type of clientele that were there with us. I would not recommend this place to anyone but the person traveling on a shoe-string who is in need of a private bathroom. A night in our Cadillac would have been more restful. The restaurant wasn't very good either. If the salad bar doesn't look good, chances are the food in the back doesn't look any better.

Basic but great base for visits to Yosemite

We spent 2 nights here towards the end of June whilst visiting Yosemite.

Reception was helpful when we checked in and gave us all the basic info we needed. Room was spacious and clean although decor was a bit dated. The aircon was a bit noisy and fierce, great for when you came back to your room, but a bit too much when sleeping even on the lowest setting.

Ate at the bar on both nights. Friendly and informative bar staff, giving a good service. Food was pretty good and prices were not too bad considering there is no other option for miles around.

It about a 10 mile drive into Yosemite from here, the only other place to stay outside of the park in this area in Yosemite C reek, about 5 miles closer. As you would expect, a great scenic drive into the park, with some excellent stopping places to view the Merced River, which runs right past the Lodge and is a great place to cool off after a day in the park. We didn't use the pools. Loads of ice machines around the Lodge, which were a godsend.

We had the breakfast in the restaurant in the morning. $10 for as much as you can eat, buffet style although there are no take outs for your day in the park. Coffee & Tea are extra though.

One point to note, about 400 yards up the road is a white water rafting centre, where you can raft down the Merced. I wish I had known that before I stayed here as I would have loved to have done it (that's down to my own research though).

Overall, considering it's remote location the Lodge's offering was pretty good. A good base to explore Yosemite from.

Jun 30, 2009 | Trip type: Family

We checked in late, about 8 pm when we arrived. We went straight up to our room to try and get settled because we were traveling with my 16 year old sister and 7 month old daughter. The room was really outdated. None of the furniture matched. There were stains all over the carpet.

When we made the reservation we requested a crib for the room (which was an additional $5.00 per night). It was not in the room when we got there so I called the front desk for them to send it up. While waiting for the crib we started to unpack and noticed dried vomit on the side of the couch. When the crib was finally delivered I was in shock. It was covered in grime and was almost black. I had to clean it myself in order to feel comfortable to put my baby in it.

I called back down to the front desk an asked for a manager. I believe I spoke to Colleen and told her of the issues with the room. She was less than concerned with any of it and said all she could do was apologize and perhaps take a percentage off of our first nights stay. We ended up getting about $9.00 off per day and were still charged for the crib.

It was so disappointing and a terrible way to end our vacation.
