“More a motel than a hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 days ago NEW

Sorry, booked trough an agency, but that's all.
Room = less than basic.
Heating= ???
No restaurants nearby, so the only thing was to buy something in the shop or go for a Cesar Salad at 16 $.
Icemachines: 1/10 was working.
About 10 or more $ for Wifi, and the receptionist told me that is opterated by an other company with very bad reception and speed...

The room was basic and you expect to pay a premium for being so close to the park so I could handle the price even though the room wasn't overly clean, it was fine for one night. Staff at reception were not helpful at check in and wi-fi is extra as many people have pointed out in their reviews. The real problem we had here was getting a meal in the evening, if I remember rightly the restaurant was closed for some reason so everyone had to go to the burger bar next door. It was really busy so we queued up for nearly an hour to place an order. We could see how busy it was so didn't expect fast service but after seeing everyone else getting their food we questioned the waiter who assured us we were next.... this happened again... we waited over two hours until nearly 11 o clock at night, for food, with no explanation as to the huge delay or attempt at an apology. It turned out they were rapidly trying to defrost some turkey for our order, which then slightly worried us that it hadn't been prepared properly! If they had explained it was one particular ingredient that was holding up our order we would definitely have changed our order to something else, when we tried to make this point they were not interested in listening and it took a further half hour for them to find a manager who eventually offered a free dessert for the trouble... but at 11:30pm dessert was the last thing we wanted so we refused. A real shambles. Hopefully this was a one off but even so I wasn't impressed by the attitudes of the staff at all.

I wondered why this motel was so reasonably priced. I'd been there 20 yrs. ago and it seemed nice. It looks the same now. Rooms are large and clean but dowdy looking. The bed was OK but the linens and towels were really harsh. There is obvious need for updating. There is no cell service and you are asked to pay $10/night for wifi (I didn't and I understand it's too slow to use anyway). The restaurant was surprisingly good, but didn't serve breakfast from a menu, only fixed price buffet. This would be an economical choice for a family staying multiple days because of the extra amenities we never used (pools, spa, etc). Location is excellent. The closer motel is more expensive.

Room Tip: 2nd floor rooms have a little balcony and you can drive up to the back door on the hill.

The location of this hotel is its main redeeming feature. It is very convenient as a place to stop on the way to or from Yosemite Valley and the surroundings are quite pretty.
Otherwise it is a fairly basic hotel with a fairly basic level of service.

The hotel is very easy to find - once on the El Portal road (Highway 140) it would be difficult to miss - and has plenty of parking.

Reception wasn't quick - several people waiting in front and none were quick to deal with. Friendly enough though, and adequate information provided. Reception also has a small shop with various sundry items and gifts. Quite useful.

Room was clean, reasonably spacious and adequately equipped. Our room was at the back of the hotel, with woodland behind, so very quiet.

Wireless internet is available, but very expensive (especially compared to the 4 other hotels we used during our holiday, which all had good and free wifi.)

For evening meals, there is a restaurant and a bar on site, which is convenient as there is not much else very nearby.

We tried the bar, where we had some excellent beer, and average food.

The restaurant also serves breakfast (not included in our hotel rate) which was a reasonable buffet with hot and cold food.

This is not a bad hotel, but it doesn't have a lot in the way of outstanding features. If we go back to Yosemite, we would consider stopping here again - but only because of the location, not the attraction of the hotel or its facilities. The price we paid seemed high for the facilities and service offered - I guess the premium for the location.

Staff members at reception Maurice and Marie were rude but the being that awoke me at midnight by laying on my chest and making it difficult to breath was yet something else. When I asked staff if room 3924 was haunted Marie again looked at us like we were idiots. great location. outdated room, over priced and crappy ghost. Just read someone else review and looks like we are not the only ones to meet Casper the A Hole Ghost.

I really enjoyed my stay at cedar lodge. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Yosemite National Park. The lodge is only about 15 minutes away but it feels like you're already in the park. You get a really nice view of the mountains and there are nice little picnic areas. We didn't go in the pool but we checked it out and it was nice.

The hotel room itself was very nice. It was clean and spacious. The only problem that we ran into was that there weren't that many in-reach electrical outlets and we had to disconnect the lamp to charge our phones but other than that it was perfect. oh and also, there was no signal not just wi-fi but also no service to make calls or send text. but that is pretty much throughout the park. It is to be expected since you're out in the wilderness and we didnt really miss it. The wi-fi is $10 for 1 day or $25 for 3 days but you cant really do much with it. It is super slow but they warn you at the desk. We were able to log into facebook but that was about it.

Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel. If you see really negative reviews it is just people being extra picky. Youll have a really pleasant stay for a good price.

The rooms are spacious and clean. The hotel is very basic. The shop and reception area are manned together so when either are busy the other suffers. We spent 15 minutes waiting to pay for some groceries. The wi fi is very expensive as it's an external provider. However the both the diner/bar and the restaurant provide excellent food. The scenery is beautiful and it's only about 20 minutes drive to the national park.

Room Tip: It is a quiet area. Rooms appear to be much the same.
