“Beautiful relaxing friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2012

A wonderful suprise! We had a room with a balcony right on the river. We really enjoyed using it - ate dinner on the balcony to enjoy the view and left the door open to listen to the rushing river. The room was large and had a whirlpool soaking tub in the bathroom. The room included a small kitchenette (stove, refrig, microwave, toaster, coffee maker) which was very useful. The beds were average. The hotel is dog friendly and many guests brought their pooches along. The employees were very friendly and helpful. The best thing was the proximity to Yosemite...only a couple of minutes away. We found this hotel easy and convenient.

The hotel restaurant serves breakfast and dinner. The prices were reasonable considering the limited choices around a National Park. We tried a pizza which I thought was good, but my husband was not impressed. We limited our eating out and brought food that could be whipped up in the hotel room (french bread, cheese, soup) The restuarant has a full bar which can be a treat when waiting for the pizza!

We enjoyed our stay and plan on returning next year with family.

Room Tip: They don't reserve specific rooms so get there and hope for a room on the river.

We found the Yosemite View Lodge very comfortable. The rooms are good sized and clean, the bathrooms are huge (towels aren't too soft though but the hot water is HOT), and the rooms stayed warm without having to keep the heat on. We stayed on the first level and there was no issue with noise or safety.... glad we didn't have to carry our luggage up the stairs. While we didn't utilize it, the kitchenette could be a great convenience.

The location is the best outside the park, no question. Thanks to Groupon, this was our second stay here. We especially enjoy the room on the river and having wine and cheese on the patio. Unlike a previous review, our jacuzzi tub was in the bathroom, so you should be able to request that room type. The front desk staff needs some work on personality but check in and out was swift. The restaurant food was average but the service there was excellent. Salad bar was extremely limited. Breakfast was a nice surprise. Go for the location and ambiance, not the food. We would stay again.

Room Tip: Request river view which most rooms have.

We stayed here using a Living Social deal in March so the price was right. Not sure if full price in high season would be worth it. The location, of course, is EXCELLENT, literally yards from the entrance to Yosemite, and the balconies of the rooms overlook the beautiful Merced River. It was nice to take some wine and cheese out to the chairs on the balcony and watch the river rush by. The rooms were comfortable, but not over-large, with a jacuzzi tub right next to the bed. It would have been better to have the tub connected to the bathroom, not a step from the bed, especially since the water jets occasionally shot out of the tub onto the floor. The shower was very large with two shower heads, which ended up being more romantic than the jacuzzi!

The restaurant at the lodge was convenient, but not spectacular. The ribs and the chicken Marsala were tasty, but the burgers and BBQ chicken were dry. The salad bar was pretty sorry and the 'southwestern chicken soup' was heated nacho cheese sauce with a few pieces of diced chicken and some canned corn added. The rooms do have kitchenettes, however, so you could prepare your own meals if you wanted.

We have stayed here a few times. It is clean for the most part. For my liking the beds are way too hard and uncomfortable. They only give you 2 very tiny pillows- we had to ask for additional. The staff at the front desk were not exactly happy people- and this was not even the busy season. The pool inside is over chlorinated as most are.
The best part is to get a room that backs up to the Merced River and the view and sounds are amazing. We had a non smoking room, also the room next to us and below us were also non smoking, but what they forget is that other rooms in that same building are smoking and smoke drifts- we continually had to close our door & window when someone in the building lit a smoke. They should reconsider having buliding by building for smoking & non smoking- that part really ruins the entire "view". The restaurant and lounge were ok. Staff there were more than friendly and helpful. The pizza in the lounge is just OK- the drinks they made were great! Buffet breakfast was ok, price was reasonable (about $10 pp). Store at hotel is expensive as any store in or around Yosemite is. Be sure to bring most of what you want with you. (Water, soda, snacks) We got a great groupon deal on this hotel and it made it well worth the stay. In past years we've paid a premium price which i do not believe is worth it. If you get a deal, stay here. Its about 20-30 minutes to valley floor. Try eating a few miles west a t Cedar Lodge Lounge, they have great burgers & the most delicious french fries. Bartender is friendly and makes awesome drinks.

Room Tip: Ask for Room with river view & upstairs.

We purchased a groupon to YVL because Yosemite was on the family travel "to-do" list. We visted in mid-March (2012) and arrived right along with quite a bit of snow in the park. Yosemite was magical under all that white and after a day of hiking around in the snow, it was a real treat to be able to come back to our room, change and head over to the heated indoor pool and spa. It was the perfect combination.
We had the river facing queen(s) room so the roar of the mighty Merced outside all night was great. The weather was too cold to sit and enjoy it for very long, but in the summer I can imagine what a treat that is. We had dinner at The River one night. It was fine, a bit pricey but considering the nearest town is 30 miles away--it wasn't terrible. We ended up making due with the pizza. I tend to love thin crust NY style, so this wasn't my style, but I thought it was pretty good for a thicker crust pizza--a cross between Pizza Hut and Shakey's. The staff was very friendly. The beds were cozy. The jacuzzi tub was almost comically large. With the drought in CA, I figured it was a bit irresponsible to fill that monster up and with the relaxation provided with the pool/spa area there was never a need.

If you did buy the Groupon--print it first, they want a hard copy. I didn't, but they let me use the front desk printer.

Oh, yeah--the internet/mobile service is non-existant (to my metro LA sensibilities) so prepare to be forced to unplug from the mothership. I WAS there to relax and enjoy nature, so that was OK---I just ended up sending pics/calling people when we were up in the park. But it would have been nice to do my digital socializing in the evening back at the room and not using my precious Yosemite park time to update my parents with pictures of their granddaughter eating tons of snow. I think there was internet in the lobby(possibly for a fee?)--but that to me doesn't count as convenient.

I think there is a tram that runs in from the hotel to Yosemite, so as the weather improves and parking gets scarcer in the park, this would be a huge bonus of staying at Yosemite View also.

Room Tip: You want to be in the rooms along the river. Not ALL rooms at this hotel are on the water, so make s...

Been going to Yosemite for over 45 years, thought we would try something new... Yosemite View Lodge was closest place to stay outside the valley. Just a 10 mile drive to valley. The Hwy 140 is the only road usually open in the snow...so knew it would be good since when we left at 3am from San Diego they said all roads in Yosemite Valley closed. The road opened after a fresh snow just as we got there, just beautiful. I would recommend Yosemite View Lodge it has all that other lodges have in valley and more, a pool in each building...very well kept up grounds and room. Great for families, hot water, good beds, a small kitchen with fridge and coffee maker. Overall a good stay...

Room Tip: We got a value price for not being on river, which was fine, as we spent all our time in valley and...
