“One of a kind - Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2011

We had dinner at Camacho's Place twice during the week that we were in El Centro and found the food to be excellent. The restaurant is still owned by the Camacho family and "grandma" works in the kitchen. As noted in prior reviews, do not be turned off by the outward appearance of the restaurant. Go on in and enjoy the food and family atmosphere. Three days after our last visit to Camacho's Place the Discovery Channel was going to be there filming a special feature on the restaurant.

“Overrated”

Waited 45 minutes for a burrito that was the size of a rolled taco, that wasn't even that great.

“OMG! YOU HAVE GOT TO EAT HERE, IT'S SO GOOD!!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2010

We were visiting relatives who took us here for dinner. Let's just say that we live over 3 hours away, and we drive there just to eat their food. i love the special quesadillas and the carne asada burritos. and, they have tamales that u can freeze and then eat at home. when a neighbor came to our house, she tried one and now she and her husband drive just to eat there. the place is really hard to find, but ask anyone around and they'll help you find it.

“Camachos-locals used to stay away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2010

I grew up in El Centro and there were 3 local mexican restaurants that were so crowded locals only ordered food to go on the weekends...Camachos, La Hacienda and La Paloma. La Hacienda and La Paloma do not exist anymore and so Camachos is more crowded than ever. Celia's (former cook and servers of La Hacienda) is the most convenient and rivals the food of Camachos but not the atmosphere. The mexican food in El Centro is different from anywhere in the Southwest, simple and flavorful. Cannot find that in Phoenix where I live now. My husband does not understand that you can eat more than one meal a day in the same restaurant; but only at Camachos or Celia's.

“A Gem in the desert!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2010

This place was a dump in 1950. Today it is a rare gem. Don't let the physical facilities put you off. Don't try and find it without a map. Enjoy the drive in the desert. Enjoy the pungent aroma of the cattle feed lots. But most of all enjoy the cold beer and truely great Mexican food. Also do not leave without trying something called a Special Quesadilla. This form of a quesadilla is unique to the El Centro area.
