Do it right or dont do it. Either remodel correctly or get out and let someone else do it.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2012

I wrote a review five years ago in which I gave this place 5/5. You can now disregard that review since things have changed and also there is some variation in room quality. When a place is described as "old and rustic", maintenance must be kept up but that is no longer the case here. While the room amenities are still good (including WiFi), it seems like nothing has been replaced for at least five years and now the furnishings look scuffed and worn. The blinds didn't even work. This time, I stayed in a room on the south side of the hotel and it had an unappealing but functional bathroom with a brown stained ceiling. However, the room was still quiet, clean, and cheap for the area and I can give a lukewarm recommendation for a traveler on a budget. You can negotiate a little in price if they are not full. I paid $45 which is cheaper than anything in Dunsmuir or Mount Shasta. If you are willing to stay in Weed, though, the Motel 6 and possibly some others are similar in price and more appealing.

Room Tip: Rooms in the north wing are a bit better than the ones in the south wing.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2006

This was a great find. The property is older and a bit rustic but very well maintained. The room was an excellent 2* motel room with two queen beds and was very clean and comfortable. The room offered a lot of amenities: microwave, refrigerator, large cable TV, phone, coffee maker, iron, and shampoo. The towels and pillows were high quality. There were benches and chairs if you wanted to sit outside your room and enjoy the fresh air. The freeway wasn't right by the motel but you could hear a faint hum from it nonetheless. It wasn't bothersome and it was generally very quiet. Finally, the low price they charge makes it an unbelievable value. Dunsmuir is convenient for hiking Castle Crags or the Mount Shasta area.
