We won the reservations at a school silent auction, so we figured that these must have been donated by other parents who know what a relaxing getaway is worth. After calling a staffer on numerous occasions, we were told that this hotel was the "new" sister hotel, and everything was clean and new. We decided to use the gift certificaie and pay for an extra night to stay the weekend.
So away we went... and when reading others' feedback, combined with the beautiful public relations photos, we thought that luxury was right around the corner.
Then we arrived....
We got there late at night and saw the tacky green and red strip-lighting and with raised eyebrows entered the lobby. We were met with very nice staff and after checking in, we looked forward to a clean, new room.
Yikes....
The room was shabby and run-down. There was an odor coming from the bathroom and we knew we had to air it out if we were going to get any sleep. The bed was hard and I had a back-ache the next day.
The next day...
After driving into town (a long drive) to shop and eat, we were having second thoughts about staying, but decided to "tough it out" and let the pools do their magic. (Maybe that was why people stayed!) We put on our suits that evening and went to relax in the hot tubs of natural spring water.
So did the roaches....
There were roaches everywhere!!! In the pools, on the walls, scurrying along the floor... everywhere!! We tried to stay in as long as we could, but were overcome by the black and brown buggers. It was time to go in and get some sleep. We checked (and double-checked) all of our belongings so that none of the unwanted visitors would join us in our room to sleep. We put on our pjs and settled in for the night.
So did they...
Roaches in the bathroom! Roaches in the bathroom! We immediately decided that enough was enough, we called dowstairs to get our towels filled with roach remains, and checked out. The staff was very apologetic, and checked us out without question. We checked into an Embassy Suites in Palm Desert for only $20 more a night. No roaches, no grime, and soft beds!
The bright side....
I had a feeling that the staff truly sympathized with our ordeal. The manager put back our money for the extra night on our charge card without question. We feel the huge problem is that ownership does not know what luxury is, so why do they lie to us in believing that is what we are getting?
