I was given the task of finding a hotel/inn for a one-night getaway for my husband and I. Our in-laws offered to watch our 2-year-old daughter for the night, and we were excited about the chance to spend uninterrupted time together. I read about Les Artistes in a guidebook, and then read the reviews on this website. We are always up for adventure, so I called to make the reservation.
The manager was very helpful, and recommended their newest room, the DeLempicka room. It had a king-size bed, a jacuzzi tub, and an ocean-view balcony. When I walked into the room, I fell in love with it. The ocean breezes that blew in through the open balcony door were dreamy, and the room decor was charming. Very romantic, and I grew to like De Lempicka's art (he's a Czechoslovakian artist, look him up if not familiar). We had dinner at the Pacifica del Mar restaurant, in the Del Mar Plaza, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
The Inn is one-of-a-kind, with each room completely different. I think it's great they allow dogs, and there are a lot of outdoor seating areas where you can drink a cup of coffee or tea, and read the local paper. Don't expect high-end amenities, but they did give us nice large towels, and waffle-weave bathrobes. The TVs are small, but we never turned ours on. They have complimentary coffee every morning, also. We had a great breakfast at the Stratford Court Cafe just down the street.
Thank you to Les Artistes for one night of heaven!

Amazing food. The filet is incredible and very large. Best restaurant we ate at in Tremblant.

i loved this little motel. not for all-very artsy-each room is done w/ dif artist theme-e.g.-we stayed in the monet room. loved that we were right downtown and could walk everywhere-beach, dinner etc.... small, private hotel. liked that they showed us all rooms available and that we could pick which one to stay in. pretty clean but not sparkling.

The inn is right in "old" Del Mar and just a few blocks from the beach. Though the guy who owns the place is a bit eccentric (it's a B and B with each room decorated in a different art "theme"--and you expect a normal hotel proprieter?) but friendly. Since we surf, we chose the Japanese-style Furo room with an old-fashioned hot tub so we could warm up in it afterwards. The room has little Buddhas and shoji screens. It also had an ocean view through some big Torrey Pines.

You can see all the rooms on the website lesartistesinn (for some reason, it doesn't show up on Google, so I put the address here). The inn is fine with you putting surfboards and sandy wetsuits out on the balcony. (Very safe) They also serve coffee in the morning. Parking is free.

It is a nice walk from the inn to an excellent outdoor cafe called the Stratford (lunch and breakfast only). We had the "dinner for couples" a few miles away at Nugent's seafood where you can sit outside on a patio and watch the sunset--it is an excellent deal with dinner for two, including wine, appetizers and dessert for $50.

The Gaugin room was so comfratable and the whole inn is so quiet and relaxing. Only went to the races and stayed one night, but wished we could of stayed more. By the way did a walk through at the top rated hotel in Del Mar.. not so great.
