“I'll Be Back”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

I visit Davis about 5 times a year and I've stayed in 3 hotels there, The Aggie Inn, The Hallmark, and Best Western. I've liked them all but the Aggie in is my favorite. We had one of the cottages (#301) and it was very spacious and charming. The staff is very helpful and I love the location. It's about 3 blocks from the center of town, so close enough to walk but without the noise. The only negative thing I noted was a very noisy fan in the bathroom. The staff assured me it would be fixed when the maintenance man returned on Monday.

Room Tip: The cottage rooms are very spacious and offer a separate seating area that includes a refrigerator...

We stayed one weekend night, while in Davis on business. Comfortable bed, clean, friendly staff, fridge & microwave. Quiet heating/cooling system. Quiet enough at night, busy streets by day. Train whistles but I love that sound, and if you want to stay downtown you will hear them. On edge of Davis' great, walkable but student-teeming downtown. Pathetic free continental breakfast -- tiny sugared yoghurt containers, a few sugary cereals, some mediocre pastries, a few lonely grapes & cheese cubes, less than excellent coffee, perhaps some eggs. My complaint is value: we paid $50 more than the rate half a block away at a much cheaper (and equally adequate-looking) Best Western. Wish I'd checked Tripadvisor first and found another place in the downtown area.

Room Tip: They seem to have some intriguing floor-level renovated cabins worth checking out, some are removed...

Stayed at the cute little boutique hotel after attending an event at the Mondavi Center at UC Davis. Great location, right on the edge of the campus and the downtown shopping/restaurant district. Tastefully decorated rooms. If street noise bothers you, ask for an inside room - very quiet.

I typically don't write reviews but my recent stay was horrible. I was suppose to stay 3 nights but after one night i moved to a different hotel. If you get a room that faces first street you will hear, cars, trains, buses etc. all night. Moreover, if you have plans to do any business forget about it. I had a teleconference in the morning and the grounds crew decided to do weed wacking outside my window. I had stayed at the Aggie Inn before but this was truly the worst hotel experience i have ever had. Stay some place else.

Thank you for taking the time to bring the noise level to our attention. We apologize you had a bad experience during your recent stay. We would love to have you back and enjoy one of our suites away from the street once the construction is over. If there is anything we can do please let us know.

The hotel is wonderfully located near campus and downtown, and has a charming outdoor sitting area good for meeting up with family here for the same wedding. I found the room rather dark, making it difficult to see into my luggage, and the breakfast room was small and the food limited. Not even any bananas, and the coffee was empty at 8:30 on a Sunday morning with "we're not making any more." The bedding was OK but the comforter a bit short. The AC was noisy and blasty and I found the motion detector light in the bathroom annoying when getting up in the night to use the bathroom. Otherwise fine, what you would expect for the price we paid ($126, king). Our relatives had a very charming cottage suite for $10 more that we would have gotten had we known, or needed the space.
Maid service not until mid afternoon one day.

Room Tip: Consider the cottages in back, but not if it's the time of year you would open a window at night...

Like other reviewers wrote, if your room faces to B street, you hear people talking as they walk right outside of your window, and buses stopping and going. Our family was too tired, so once we fell asleep, we slept solid. I hear that rooms that do not face any streets are really nice from our friend.

The hotel was clean, staff was nice, and had sufficient breakfast. They may need to check the fruits that they have in the reception area sometime, but otherwise, our family was happy to stay there.

It was closed to many restaurants, central park where they have farmer's market twice a week and to UC Davis.

Room Tip: Rooms that do not face any streets

Awful and wanting in many areas! It was Dirty, Stingy, Smelly, and Insufficient in toiletries. No magnifying mirror for putting on make up. On the floor I found a couple of Advil that were not disposed of by housekeeper. Housekeeper left our dirty mugs and glasses and didn't provide clean ones for the following day. The bathroom lights were on moving sensor so even before crossing the threshold, the lights came on shining across the way on the bed and on your sleeping partner in the middle of the night.
