“Nice, a bit dark, poor breakfast service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

The hotel is wonderfully located near campus and downtown, and has a charming outdoor sitting area good for meeting up with family here for the same wedding. I found the room rather dark, making it difficult to see into my luggage, and the breakfast room was small and the food limited. Not even any bananas, and the coffee was empty at 8:30 on a Sunday morning with "we're not making any more." The bedding was OK but the comforter a bit short. The AC was noisy and blasty and I found the motion detector light in the bathroom annoying when getting up in the night to use the bathroom. Otherwise fine, what you would expect for the price we paid ($126, king). Our relatives had a very charming cottage suite for $10 more that we would have gotten had we known, or needed the space.
Maid service not until mid afternoon one day.

Room Tip: Consider the cottages in back, but not if it's the time of year you would open a window at night...

Like other reviewers wrote, if your room faces to B street, you hear people talking as they walk right outside of your window, and buses stopping and going. Our family was too tired, so once we fell asleep, we slept solid. I hear that rooms that do not face any streets are really nice from our friend.

The hotel was clean, staff was nice, and had sufficient breakfast. They may need to check the fruits that they have in the reception area sometime, but otherwise, our family was happy to stay there.

It was closed to many restaurants, central park where they have farmer's market twice a week and to UC Davis.

Room Tip: Rooms that do not face any streets

Awful and wanting in many areas! It was Dirty, Stingy, Smelly, and Insufficient in toiletries. No magnifying mirror for putting on make up. On the floor I found a couple of Advil that were not disposed of by housekeeper. Housekeeper left our dirty mugs and glasses and didn't provide clean ones for the following day. The bathroom lights were on moving sensor so even before crossing the threshold, the lights came on shining across the way on the bed and on your sleeping partner in the middle of the night.

We were very pleased with the Aggie Inn. The reception staff were friendly and helpful. We were surprised to learn that our room was the smallest one in the hotel. It is not described as a cottage but is actually attached to one of the revamped cottages. Coming from the UK where hotel rooms are generally smaller than in the US, we found it very adequate. It had a queen bed (UK king size), a settee which could be converted to a full/double bed and ample space to move around. The carpet and furnishings were fairly new and scrupulously clean.

There was an excellent choice of breakfast cereals, danish pastries, bread and bagels for toasting, waffle maker, yoghourts and a good selection of teas. The only cooked food was hard boiled eggs.

Room Tip: A relative booked the room for us and asked for a quiet room, which it was, so I would suggest that...

Pros:
Clean
Convenient location

Cons:
Tight Parking
Fairly noisey location
No hot tub

For those sensitive to noise be advised: avoid room 201.
Room 201 is the corner room directly facing the corner of 1st and B streets. As the room is right on the corner, I'm guessing it's probably the room at Aggie Inn that is most susceptible to noise. Friday late afternoon/early evening will entail lots of stop-and-go traffic noise and
car radio noise (as cars queue up to leave town). The intersection of 1st and B streets seems to be on the routes of a lot of different buses as well. You will hear the stop-and-go noise of diesel bus engines during this Friday evening time period for 2-3 hours.
Once the Friday evening traffic noise of those leaving town dies down, be prepared for any live music that might be happening farther down B street (towards Central Park). This music may die down around 9 o'clock. Then things get a little quieter. Then The only thing that will really stand out is the occassional yelling of a drunk (or sober) college student. Though if you wear earplugs during the loudest times, the noise isn't that intolerable.
Note: Ear plugs can be found upon arrival in the room (near the soap and shampoo bottles).

Room Tip: avoid room 201 due to street noise exposure

That was my wife's suggestion when we decided to visit my son who has been working at UC-Davis for about a year. What a pleasant surprise! Total renovation, clean, pretty, and attentive service. We stayed in a "king cottage" at a remarkably decent rate. The location can't be beat. Inches from Downtown and remarkably close to the University. I hadn't been to the Aggie Inn since 2008. despite the fact that was a bit gray around the edges them, my family and I had spent a really nice and relaxing vacation weekend in Davis then, but every time I've been back for business, somebody at UCD put me at Hallmark Inn. So I figured that they had good reason to put me there. Hallmark ain't bad, but it's cookie-cutter and has a torturous parking garage. Very pleased to be back at the Aggie. The only thing standing between it and a Tripadvisor "5" is that the breakfast is typical American "spare fare"; but the coffee, granola, and yoghurt will fortify you for one of the many first-class breakfasts in downtown Davis. I suggest Cafe Bernardo, but that's another review...

Room Tip: "King cottage" is worth the price if you have a few visitors over to watch TV or hang out.

This is a no frills hotel. The rooms are spacious but a bit dated. The walls at thin! I could hear my neighbor coughing in the next room and his (judging by the voice it was he) telephone ringing. The amenities are bare bones. The coffee machine comes with one coffee pod (and a single decaf pod) so if you have a companion, plan on splitting your cup. The bathroom is cramped but adequate. There's a basic continental breakfast although I suggest that you wander down to the Black Bear Diner down the street, about two blocks away. The staff are courteous and there are apples and cookies at check in. Nice touch. The big value is the central location. Walk to downtown location with its village flair or to UC Davis. All in all not bad but not superior either.
