“"Let's go back to the Aggie Inn"”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

That was my wife's suggestion when we decided to visit my son who has been working at UC-Davis for about a year. What a pleasant surprise! Total renovation, clean, pretty, and attentive service. We stayed in a "king cottage" at a remarkably decent rate. The location can't be beat. Inches from Downtown and remarkably close to the University. I hadn't been to the Aggie Inn since 2008. despite the fact that was a bit gray around the edges them, my family and I had spent a really nice and relaxing vacation weekend in Davis then, but every time I've been back for business, somebody at UCD put me at Hallmark Inn. So I figured that they had good reason to put me there. Hallmark ain't bad, but it's cookie-cutter and has a torturous parking garage. Very pleased to be back at the Aggie. The only thing standing between it and a Tripadvisor "5" is that the breakfast is typical American "spare fare"; but the coffee, granola, and yoghurt will fortify you for one of the many first-class breakfasts in downtown Davis. I suggest Cafe Bernardo, but that's another review...

Room Tip: "King cottage" is worth the price if you have a few visitors over to watch TV or hang out.

This is a no frills hotel. The rooms are spacious but a bit dated. The walls at thin! I could hear my neighbor coughing in the next room and his (judging by the voice it was he) telephone ringing. The amenities are bare bones. The coffee machine comes with one coffee pod (and a single decaf pod) so if you have a companion, plan on splitting your cup. The bathroom is cramped but adequate. There's a basic continental breakfast although I suggest that you wander down to the Black Bear Diner down the street, about two blocks away. The staff are courteous and there are apples and cookies at check in. Nice touch. The big value is the central location. Walk to downtown location with its village flair or to UC Davis. All in all not bad but not superior either.

We got put up here by UCal Davis so I can't complain too much, but it's only average. Getting to the room was a trip in itself, as we had to go up a stairway (no elevator) and then outside. The room itself was clean and pleasant, however, with a fridge and water provided. Good bed, and generally pretty quiet though right on a fairly busy street. There is a breakfast provided but don't expect much beyond cold cereal.

I stayed here on a recent trip to UC Davis. The Inn is close to campus, and a short walk from downtown Davis. The room was clean and neat, though the furniture was a bit beat-up. The desk staff were helpful. Breakfast was marginal, though there was lots of fresh fruit. The one downside is that the Inn is on a busy street. I realized on the second night that ear plugs were provided, and found sleep easier when I wore them.

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. We are pleased that you found our location ideal for your stay. We apologize for the noisiness of the street and are glad to hear that the ear plugs worked great for you. Please let us know if there is anything else we can do for you on your next visit to Davis.

We stayed here for a night on our way to a wedding in Napa in one of the cottages.
Can't speak highly enough on the quality of the rooms, comfortable bed, spa bath, friendly and helpful staff and general condition of the property.
Very close to UC Davis.
Will stay here again when next in Davis.

Room Tip: Can't go past the cottages.

Thank you Aggie Inn for making our stay so wonderful. Our family had most of the cabins and and many rooms. We were able to visit each other and enjoy the time of our son's wedding in a wonderful relaxed setting. We also had grandchildren with us and I was at first unsure how they could be entertained without a pool, but the cabin areas worked out very nicely for them too. A big thanks for adjusting our bill to the wedding rate too! Barbara Johnson

Room Tip: Get the cabins if you have a group and want to hang out together.

We were upgraded to a two room cottage/casita and it was fabulous - clean, spacious (includes couch, desk, TV in the main room, a mini kitchen and a separate bedroom) and convenient. Our private deck (room 304) was facing B street but there are others with more private decks. There is a restaurant across the street that did play loud live music at one point during the day but they ended early.

A VERY basic breakfast room (coffee, oatmeal, bagels, cereal, make your own waffles, fruit) is included. The TVs, towels, etc were fitting a more expensive hotel although the pillows could use upgrading. as could the lighting in the main room (in our cottage at least). Lots of windows tho!

At First and B, this is a perfect location - two blocks from the park and farmer's market and many restaurants and shops. You can easily walk or ride a bike anywhere.

For the price and location this was an excellent hotel and we'll likely stay here next year.

Room Tip: Cottages are large - there are two that have decks facing the parking lot that I'd avoid. There...
