“Nice hotel with pleasant and helpful staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 23, 2013

The hotel is south of Dana Point proper so not within walking distance of many restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Still, there were a few restaurants nearby. Free WiFi worked well in the rooms. The breakfast was good.

The good news is that you can see the ocean from the hotel. The bad news is that there are train tracks between the hotel and the beach although there is a pedestrian overpass nearby.

Amtrak and Los Angeles commuter trains use the tracks and need to blow their horns due to a road crossing. We were there on a weekend and the trains started at 7:30 AM and ended and 10:30 PM so they did not disturb our sleep.

Room Tip: Get one of rooms at the back so you are a bit further away from the tracks.

Thank you for your review of our hotel and the great comments about our free WiFi and Hot Breakfast. As travelers ourselves, we understand the importance of a good hearty breakfast in the morning and having fast reliable WiFi connection to command the day. You will be glad to know that the Train will no longer blow it's horn on your next visit to our hotel. After working for 3 long years with the local residents, our area is now a quiet zone and the trans can zip right by without a sound.

Thank you for the wonderful review of our hotel. We are pleased that we were able to offer you a relaxing stay here in front of the Pacific Ocean. Our view is unmatched in this area and we are very fortunate to have such an unobstructed direct view of the water from our property and private balcony ocean view rooms. Please keep us in mind during your next visit or tournament in town.

We spent 2 nights here for New Year's Eve. Except for the train noise, which didn't bother us, it was quiet and clean w/ a wonderful view of the ocean. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was typical for these hotels... waffle maker, cold cereal, packaged pastries, scrambled eggs and sausage. I'm not crazy about this food but for most Americans it is fine.

Room Tip: Rooms w/ view of ocean best. Be mindful across the street from train tracks which can be quite noisy...

Thank you for bringing in the New Year with us and allowing us to be your hotel of choice during the celebration. We are sorry to hear that the train was a disturbance but you will be pleased to hear that the train will no longer use their horn when passing our hotel. Our area is now considered a quiet zone for trains, which allows them to pass silently.

We were in town over the Christmas/New Years Holiday and had a two night stay in Dana Point. I chose the Best Western for Value and Location. I booked through EntertainmentHotelBucks and got a great deal, we actually were going to extend our stay but I could not get the same price again but the hotel was willing to match it, but we opted to continue with our Original plan to go back into the Desert (Palm Springs). This is right across from the Beach - there is nothing but a few passing cars to obstruct your view. I love that Best Westerns include waffle and eggs breakfasts, along with other Continental Breakfast Items. And that they include Free WiFi.
This particular location had a underground parking area, which when its full it would be hard to move around if your not a comfortable driver.
Your room entry is outdoors but covered. It's set up like a multilevel courtyard setting. Very charming. There is an elevator or stairs.
Room was very large, had 2 queen beds, microwave, fridge and coffee maker. Along with the usual bath amenities - soaps, hair dryer, etc.
The receptionist was very nice and pleasant and seemed to enjoy her job and was very accommodating.

I only give 4 Circles just because I don't want to confuse anyone to think this is a 5 Star "Resort". It's a hotel/inn. Things are a bit out dated but there are some updated things - like the tv and Counters that you may not get in some 4 Star Hotels that have been around for a while.

For what it is and the price for what we paid for it, I'd give it a Five!

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review and noticing our completely renovated rooms. We are constantly working on our hotel to make sure things do not feel dated, but are fresh, contemporary, and clean. I will make sure to commend our front desk for their efforts, they do enjoy their jobs and it definitely shows. We are proud that they embrace our motto of "treat guests like family."

We flew in Los Angeles and arrived late so phoned the hotel to advise it would be about 11pm
When we will arrive at 11.30pm there was someone there to greet us and was very helpful.
We had an Ocean view room which was very nice. But the down side was the noise from the trains and road but to be honest this may be that the wife is a light slipper and we were both Jet lagged.Plenty of parking under the Hotel, great free breakfast.

We are delighted to be your hotel of choice to kick off your holiday. Thank you for taking the time to notice our newly renovated rooms and hope the Sealy memory foam pillow top mattresses helped you to sleep after the train disturbance. You will be glad to hear that during your future visits, the train will no longer toot their horns when passing. After a very long process, we were able to create a silent zone near our hotel so all of our guests will be able to receive a good nights sleep.

I might have rated this hotel average if it weren't literally across from the beautiful Pacific Ocean, but I can't because of that fact.

I was curious as to who would rate this hotel "terrible". I always find it a bit suspicious when terrible reviewers only leave one or two reviews.

First off, I don't know anyone who pays for breakfast here. Maybe that was under old management because now the breakfast is included in the hotel stay and it's not horrible, but it's nothing amazing either.

If you're staying in Dana Point please venture outside of your hotel's continental breakfast and dine at one of it's great breakfast/brunch locations.

Our room/ semi-private balcony was facing the ocean. Yes the main road is right in front of the hotel, but I've never seen it busy enough to be a distraction to what's straight ahead.

Clean hotel, nice staff, and convenient distance to quaint towns such as San Clemente. I think this is the best Best Western I've visited!

Room Tip: Do yourself a favor and get an ocean front room. You'll thank me if you love the ocean as much a...
