Had a chance to stay here after Thanksgiving. Check-in process was great except for the sticker shock of $150 pet fee per night. Good thing we have friends who live nearby that were more than happy to watch our dog. Whew.
This hotel is situated beautifully on the Southern California coastline with great views from the dining, cocktail and even the gym. I tried so hard to fall in love with this hotel, but I just could not. The rooms are just ok. Mini bars are empty. Not stocked at all. I would expect a five-star hotel to have a full stocked mini bar. Bathrooms are what you expect, but no "wow" factor. Our view was of the pool, which in my honest opinion, is one of the most boring pools I have ever seen.
The cocktail area outside has a beautiful view and the service/food are very good. The main dining area also serves up a very good Sunday brunch.
This hotel is a bit on the casual side and, I think, for the price you pay I would expect something more. I couldn't pin down exactly what it was I was in need of until my wife suggested we go stay at the Montage down the street for a second night in the area. Everything that the Ritz is missing, the Montage has. Romance, amazing beaches, incredible rooms, phenomenal food, beautiful views, gorgeous pool.
Is the Ritz a five star hotel? Of course, but depending on what you are looking for, you might not find it all here.
