“Wonderful Suites close to Doheny Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2014

the fourth floor has a partial view of the beach, the third floor would be better but the suites are on the third floor. Great restaurant and bar. The bar has the best view of all, great place to sit with margaritas, long happy hour. Hotel is close to all the activities. Only minutes to San Clamente and other attractions. Little bit of road noise since it sets between two main highways, but once you shut the window it wasn't bad. Friendly staff.

I really like this hotel, it is not everyone's cup of tea, but we love staying here.

It is on PCH just across the street from the beach. Very short safe walk to a wonderful clean, family friendly surfing beach.

All rooms are suites with 2 rooms. Ours had 2 beds plus a pull out sofa. Includes fridge, microwave, bar sink and coffee maker. Room is open and airy with sliders to a balcony. We had a wonderful ocean view (although the called it a partial-view when we checked in). The bathroom is one of the smallest I have ever seen, but it seems to work.

Lots of inside outside activities. the pool area is locked with a hot tub and plenty of chairs, tables and towels. On Saturday night they showed the kids movie Rio on an outside screen in the pool. Lots of people sitting at the pool and on balcony's watching the movie. Pizza was delivered to people at the pool from a local Dominos. We had a great view of the screen from our balcony.

Wonderful roof top bar, amazing ocean view, great place to watch a sunset, great bar food, friendly service. Happy hour till 7 had great drink and food specials. On the weekend, live music in the evening. Family friendly to eat a late lunch or quick dinner.

Building is old in the 50's OC beach hotel resort kind of way, it has a fun casual laid-back vibe to it.

Parking is expensive, valet or self park only. Area is very tight and can get very busy. Be sure to call ahead for them to bring around the car when you are ready to leave.

Not for everyone, but we love it!

Older Hotel but good service and great location. Biggest negative - Pool way to cold. Comfortable rooms however bathroom small. Whenever we asked for service the staff was very good. Rooms cleaned but housekeeping did not hassle us in the morning (which we liked). Restaurant had good service and nice roof top casual bar area. I wish we had an outside room but think they were more expensive. Very close to multiple beaches and not far from 2 good malls. Only about 40 minutes from Disney which was nice because we did not want to stay in Anahiem.

From the pictures on the website, it looked like a decent hotel. Then when we arrived, we had to double back because we were like "this cannot be the hotel". The room was not great, the bed was horrible and broken! Our view was of a tree, train tracks (which the train went by every day) and of the highway. The bathroom, was awkwardly created. I guess I should say, we should have expected less of a Doubletree, but in Dana Point and for the price we paid, we expected more. Will not be staying here again when we visit.

Dear Tracy,

Thank you very much for your review. I am truly sorry we did not meet your expectations with regard to our website pictures and your room allocation. We are scheduled to begin renovation this fall, I hope we have it all completed by the next time you visit Dana Point. Once it is completed, we will also be updating our website. I look forward to welcoming you back.

With warm regards,

Walking distance to beach, small pool present, Rooms are smaller then seen per Internet photo. Additional $20 Parking Fee/day and $20 Occupancy Fee/day can bring overall price up quickly. Close to Laguna Beach and other LA Beach cities.

We had a great ocean view from our room which we requested. The beds were great. The room was very clean. Towels were great. The employees are fantastic. The furniture is a little old but in good shape and very clean. Carpeting was clean. The dinner and breakfast we had were great. Didn't like the $22 per day parking.

The bathroom was too small, especially for a "Suites" room geared to families. Only one person can use the bathroom at the same time. The furniture was dated. We had stayed here before when it was a Holiday Inn and didn't realize it was the same hotel. The hotel does not meet the standard of a Hilton property.
