I agree will all the previous positive postings for this hotel. I have lived in So Cal all of my life and only one other place along the California Coast compares to the scenic beauty of Monarch Bay (Pebble Beach, Northern CA). If you are trying to decide on the numerous beach choices of the Orange Coast, pick this one (Laguna Beach or Monarch Bay) if you are looking the most natural beauty. No other beach area along the Orange or Los Angeles Coasts look like this beach does. It has a look and feel like the French Riviera.
If you didn’t already know, “St. Regis” hotels are Starwood hotel’s equivalent to Marriott’s Ritz Carlton. The only other hotel that holds a candle to this one in this area is Ritz Carlton. The Ritz is on a cliff overlooking the ocean and you walk down a long flight of stairs to get to the public beach. The St. Regis is set back away from the ocean, so don’t expect to hear waves crashing outside your window if you choose to pay for an ocean view. You get to the private beach and bay club via a short tram ride through the golf course. This private beach has a restaurant and food and drink service on the beach.
When you arrive at the beach, there is staff waiting to set up your beach chairs, umbrella and towels. Drink and food service are also available.
We stayed in an ocean view suite $650/night. The room was 790 square feet and had a huge bathroom. It was more than adequate with down comforter, walk-in closet, private balcony, desk, turn down service.
Who should go: People who want five star service and a unique Southern California Beach experience with beautiful views.
Who shouldn’t go: Anyone who has a problem paying $15 for a cheeseburger or $8 for a beer.
