“Follow The Yellow Brick Road”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

"LA-LA Land" cannot compare to the experience of this magnificet historic hotel. This hotel hosted Judy Garland and other stars while the "Wizard of Oz" was being filmed a mile or so away. There are so many appointments around the hotel that it brought back the once elegant feeling that hotels indulged guests in. The accommodations were lavish, mixing the old decor with the with impeccable taste. If movie memorabilia is of interest -go no further.
The complimentry breakfast was perfect. Everything fresh and delectable. Each night there was a different venue with great bands spanning generations of music to appease all tastes and ranges. The chef obviously goes out of his way to be creative and taste worthy.
The staff deserves kudos for taking care of all our needs. We have traveled on cruise ships and stayed in four star hotels around our country and in Europe. Seth Horowitz, GM, made a point of taking us on a tour. David Hall, Front Office Manager, took care of all our travel needs and enlightened my husband with a history course! We were greeted by the Night Manager, Joel, as though we were royalty! And the entire waitstaff, too many to name, pampered us throughout the meals we enjoyed.
We are delighted to have our daughter in LA so that we can return to the Culver Hotel quite soon. It is convenient to the airport and to everywhere around LA, Beverly Hills, Pasadena and the hills of Hollywood.
"THERE IS NO PLACE LIKE HOME!" Follow the rainbow to The Culver Hotel and you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Jusy ask for an upgrade and they will be happy to serve you!

When you walk in to the lobby the old feel of the 1920's is still there. The Parisian room and lobby are amazing. It is the boutique feeling that makes you want to stay there again. The hotel is right in the heart of little town of Culver. There are quite a few spots lcoated around the hotel within walking distance that made it fun too.

Room Tip: Its is a smaller hotel- 6 floors. All the rooms were a nice size, I stayed in a junior suite and in...

When the new owners took on the property in 2007 they completely renovated the hotel, from top to bottom. With pride and passion (and a ton of money) they were determined to maintain (regain) the glory of this magnificent building, built in 1924. The renovation was completed in 2012 and now we are ready for our close-up.
All the great MGM movies were shot a block away, and all the great actors stayed with us.
John Wayne won the hotel in a card game.
The munchkins were housed here when The Wizard of Oz was being shot.
...................and on and on and on.
Thanks for staying.

We stayed in this hotel just after Christmas, as our son lives nearby. There aren't a lot of nice hotels in this area, and this is probably the best. You can't beat the location, as you can walk to many restaurants in the trendy downtown area. We got a room on a high floor to enjoy the view. The room was nice and clean, although not huge. Very comfortable. The staff was great. Very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was included in the price and it was better than most. The hotel manager stopped by to chat as we were enjoying our breakfast, which doesn't happen very often. He gave us his card and asked if he could do anything to make our stay more enjoyable. Very impressive. We will stay here again.

Room Tip: The suites seem to have the best view looking north toward LA. The south-facing rooms are smaller a...

Still staying at this hotel as I write this review. There are many positives. The hotel is lovely, charming and located in a very picturesque area of LA. You are transported back to the early days of filmmaking with silent movies being shown at the bar, the grand dining area and the history of all the great stars that stayed here in the past.
Now if only management would hire staff to clean up after those actors left! Yes, the hotel is a little dusty and the breakfast staff slightly grumpy but if you overlook these minor annoyances, the Culver is a hotel to be experienced.

We actually show Silent Movies in our Grand Lobby every night, accompanied by live Jazz. Some of those movies were actually shot in and around our wonderful little hotel.
Will work on the housekeeping, a hotel must be clean, fundamental requirement.
Seth.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

I spent four nights over Christmas at this lovely establishment. The location can't be beat--walking distance to a variety of food, entertainment and shopping. The staff I interacted with were superb with the exception of Raquel, who should re-think a career in the "hospitality" industry (because the other staff were exceptional, Raquel stood out like a sore thumb). This could easily be a 5 star hotel were it not for poor housekeeping and tired amenities in the room. My room was attended to each day but not vacuumed once during my 4 night stay which I found quite surprising. The mini fridge was so loud it cound not be used (this after having to pull it out of the dusty cubby in the closet to plug it in--no wonder it was unplugged). The exhaust fan in the bathroom rattled so that I tended to use the bathroom in the dark rather than have to listen to the annoying fan, and the lighted, wall mounted, magnifying mirror in the bathroom was not clean when I arrived and not cleaned during my stay. The bathroom was lit with two candelabra bulb sconces which are woefully inadequate. The king bed was comfy and well made. My room faced the movie theater and it could get quite noisy, but quieted down by 11 pm or so (movie patrons, skateboarders, and dozens of folks with microphones and amplifiers chanting "Hare Krishna"). This really is a lovely place and I would stay again but some issues in Room 56 should certainly be addressed by management.

Great hotel! Rooms, lobby and outside area are really nice! Perfect location for us out of town tourist visiting the city for the first time. We drove to Hollywood and Beverly Hills in 20 minutes, drove to Burbank (NBC, Universal Studios, Warner Bros, etc) in just over half an hour and drove in the other direction to Venice and Santa Monica in 15 minutes. Super convenient location!!! Plus really cosy area near hotel where there are really nice restaurants, we tried the Italian "Ugo" and ate the best food on our whole holiday, and so cheap too! Super cheap parking too, $8 a day. Only downside was their breakfast, very little choice and the bread was totally stale. Lovely to sit outside though while eating.

Thank you for staying with us.
Downtown Culver City is really in the middle of Los Angeles County, and does give you access to everything you might want to visit. I say it so often when selling the hotel, it is encouraging to hear it at work.
We have made adjustments to our breakfast breads and now our Chef Sam is baking it himself, much, much better.
See you soon.

I was excited to stay in a historic (by Hollywood time) hotel and it didn't disappoint! Friends met us in the lobby one evening and it was packed (nicely)! The room was lovely, the decor was creative and not opulent and the staff very accommodating. Will definitely return.
