“Somewhere between poor and average”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

The food was mediocre and, as other reviewers have pointed out, the service was beyond slow. Although the server was polite enough to us, he seemed somewhat rude to the tables next to us. We will definitely not be going back.

“Enjoyable food and good ambience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 27, 2013

We had dinner with friends last night at Polentoni. It was our first visit to the restaurant and we used a fabulous Groupon offer. The restaurant is much nicer on the inside than it looks on the outside. My family is Italian and is quite picky about Italian food. I started with soft polenta with mushrooms and cheese. It was cooked just as it should be...simply delicious. The rest of our party had salads and all were pleased. Our entrees included some pasta dishes and risotto. All were very good. Our waitress was very accommodating, however, she did seem to have a lot of tables to wait. One negative is that, while we had a very reasonably priced dinner because of the Groupon, some of the salads and entrees DID seem overpriced. We had a nice, relaxing evening with friends. No one tried to rush us through our dinner or out of the restaurant when we were finished. We will definitely go back again.

“Average Italian with Incredibly Slow Service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2013

We've been to Polentoni twice, each time on a dinner promotion. The first time we had basic Italian (lasagna was especially good) and the second time we went slightly upper scale (cioppino, linguini al mare). Both times the service was terribly slow. They are very understaffed and, while polite waitstaff, it is too much to have the same person be the door greeter, table seater, waiter and busboy. Perhaps we just went on off nights, but I suspect it is more common than not.
The ambiance is pleasant, although a bit noisy, and the clientele is well behaved - lots of young couples and a few families, although no children when we went at 8:00 pm. The restaurant is probably good for kids in the afternoons and early evenings - pizzas, pastas seem reasonably priced. The cioppino and linguini al mare, however, were overpriced at $36 each. The cioppino broth was very good, although my wife could not eat the linguini, as the pasta was so overcooked as to make it mushy. Al dente it wasn't.
Finally, there is smoking outside the front door and we had to ask that the windows be closed to avoid the smoke.

“Fabulous food, good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

I love this place! The ambiance is beautiful, such a surprise when you see it from the outside as it is in a corner strip mall. The parking lot is small, so they have valet. Being on a budget I am able to walk there and leave the car at home and avoid the extra parking tip. The food is fabulous, high quality and large servings. The menu choices are varied, with traditional Italian fare and some California fusion going on there. Okay the downside, it's pricey. They have a great groupon deal, but check into any restrictions. We learned that not all menu selections are included.
