My husband and I booked unit number 20 in the "B" building through VRBO.com for two nights mid-week. It was very clean and decently decorated. The kitchen was minimally stocked, enough for breakfast, but not for fixing a complicated dinner. Had everything we needed including enough hot water, which was a complaint about another unit. We dealt directly with the owner via email to reserve the unit. Each unit is individually owned. We had to mail a cashiers check or money order, dealing directly with this particular owner. Picked-up the keys at the "office" after hours with no problems. Free wireless and gas fireplace worked well.

Having a covered garage was very nice in the snow. We walked to and from the Canyon Lodge in our ski boots carrying our skis without a problem. (We are reasonably fit 50 and 61 year olds.) They do have lockers at the lodge where you can keep your skis overnight if you don't want to carry them back.

We would stay there again.

I have been to Mammoth Lakes at least 60 to 70 times in the past 35 years. Stayed in camp grounds, mobil homes, homes of friends, time shares, rental condos, you name it. This town has changed A LOT in the past 5 - 10 years. Big money has arrived and there are some REALLY great places to stay on vacation. Mammoth Ski and Racquet Club USED to be nice, but now, especially compared to the new nice places, is a tired, old, run-down lower-end property. There are certainly junkier places to stay in Mammoth, but unless the owners here spend some serious $$ to restore this place, Ski and Racquet Club is going to slide into the ghetto list of places to stay here.
The exteriors show the signs of the too-widespread examples of bad construction practices in this town. The buildings look like what they have been through - too many hard winters on low quality construction. The property needs to be repaved, new siding, new paint, new hot tubs (ick, the hot pools are REALLY bad), there needs to be standards of maintenance for owners on their units (such as some really horrible window coverings, decks, interior furnishings, etc

Mammoth Ski and Racquet Club is a condo property that in it's youth was a great place to stay. In this town of new money and new, NICE accomodations, it is tired and run-down. There are worse places to stay in Mammoth, and there are many that are much nicer

“A big disappointment!”

My husband, our 3 kids and I stayed at Mammoth Ski & Raquet Club starting this past Saturday, 1/20/07, for 2 nights in unit #33. It was advertised through www.lastminutemammoth.com as a 2 BD/2 BA that accommodates 7 people. My husband and I started skiing at Mammoth when we were in high school in the late 70s and have rented condos at many complexes over the years. We were extremely disappointed at how appealing this unit #33 appeared on the Web site but how it lacked comfort in many ways. First and foremost, the biggest disappointment was when we ran out of hot water after a mere 2 showers. The third person withstood a shower with only the first few minutes of hot water. We complained to the front desk but their only comment was that the units are individually owned and that this particular unit #33 has its own water heater. Their solution was to "stagger" our showers. Upon leaving I told management that they need to disclose this information so that others booking this condo understand that there is no guarantee for hot water for all 7 people. The other big disappointment was the upstairs toilet that plugged up twice in our 2 night stay. They came by to fix it while we were skiing the first day only to have it plug up again after the first flush upon returning. This unit also shows its age and like the other reviewers mentioned, the carpet is dirty and old. Skiers and families with small kids should be aware that this condo is on its way to Canyon Lodge and is clamed to be walking distance. However, it is an uphill walk the entire way and carrying ski gear would be quite exhausting. We drove our family to Canyon Lodge. I took the shuttle back on the second day with my 2 younger kids only to find myself exhausted by carrying our ski gear from the shuttle stop up the hill to building D. Last but not least, there is deception with what is stated on www.lastminutemammoth and with what management states. Our rate for a Sat./Sun night stay was $400.50 not including the $25 management fee and tax. We received a 10% discount for booking 3 days in advance of our stay which came to $360.45. When we asked management for an added discount due to the problems that we experienced with the condo they stated that we already received an additional 10% discount in the original $400.50 rate. If you go to this web site, click on Mammoth Ski & Raquet Club, then click on the “availability” or the “book online” links you will see a disclosure at the top that states, “Rates displayed are PRE DISCOUNT”. There is an obvious inconsistency with what they state in person and what is advertised. I highly recommend looking at all the other options in Mammoth first since the Mammoth Ski & Raquet Club accommodations are not outstanding and the rates are not the least expensive but instead are comparable with other complexes.

The Unit we rented in Bldg. F was clean and bathrooms scrubbed. All amenities were provided and the kitchen was well stocked with dishes etc., microwave, coffee maker and dishwasher. The unit was comfortable, clean and fresh. Totally enjoyed the convenience to Canyon Lodge less than a 10 minute walk and avoided the parking lot mess.

Stayed with my girlfriends for a long ski weekend. Unit was clean and bathrooms scrubbed. Parked in garage which was great. Easy walk to Canyon Lodge. Would definitely stay again and I have the same unit booked for March 2006.
