“End of season and a delight. Wish we could have been there sooner.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

We were here at the end of the tourist season and by mid-afternoon were only the 2nd couple to have been there all day. The young woman in charge told us they were closing in a couple of days and so unfortunately there was little on offer except cookies/pastry and coffee. So, two lattes and macaroons. This is a lovely spot, there is a stage for music (none while we were there) and overall it's in a beautiful location at the end of the road (like many places in Iceland). Someday, we'll go back when they're truly up and running.

“Excellent restaurant/café.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

A beautiful café/restaurant. The fish soup is the best I've ever tasted, and the cakes and pies are excellent too. A must if you are in Borgarfjörður Eystri!

“Best chocolate cake in Iceland”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

Really all the cakes had my companions raving, but I think the chocolate was amazing. The other food is great too. And the ambiance is totally charming with tables and plates made from slabs of local stone. If you are in this town, you must at least stop by this place!

“Surprisingly good restaurant in this remote place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2013

We were pointed to this place by the Blabjorg guesthouse people and were not disappointed. The café shares its premises with a stonecarver "Alfa Stein" sales outlet, making it a very interesting shop/restaurant combination.
We had the fish-soup and it was excellent, the pot being available for multiple servings and the home-baked bread was simply delicious with a dash of local butter.
The restaurant furniture is made of sturdy polished stone slabs and numerous artifacts are also exhibited.
An excellent rhubarb pie topped off the meal.

“Quirky and delightful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

There aren't too many dining options in Borgarfjordur Eystri, but if you're in the area, you'll almost certainly want to go to Alfacafe anyways. Apparently, it's owned by a local fisherman who contributes his fresh catch to the menu. And that menu is the first quirky aspect of this restaurant: there are very few items available! We had the fish soup and a salt cod dish. Both were excellent, but the fish soup in particular was absolutely superb: actually, probably one of the best I've ever eaten (and I'm a fisheries biologist who tries lots!).

The other quirky thing about the restaurant is its ambiance and decor, which is delightful and casually elegant, complete with interior rock walls and subdued lighting. How they could afford to decorate to this extent, for a very small number of visitors, baffles me. But it was much appreciated.

The only reason that I didn't give this restaurant an Excellent rating is because of its very limited menu. But this place is well worth a visit!
