“Terrible service, food tasted like it was pre-cooked and held”

When Bishamon opened several years ago, the food was very good, fresh and tasty. I am guessing the restaurant has changed hands, because the interior was extensively remodeled. And even if the restaurant did not change hands, something changed in the kitchen, because the food does not taste fresh.

“Horrible Service, Left Hungry and Frustrated”

This is the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. The food is great, but if you want to have the worst service and have waiters not care about anything, then this is the restaurant for you. I really hope that if you are reading this review, you will NOT consider visiting this restaurant.

Upon arrival to Bishamon, our drink orders were taken quickly but after our drinks were brought to the table, no one came to our table to take our food order. After about 15 minutes, I asked the sushi chef to get our waiter. One waiter came by and after we told him our order, he tells us to hold on (without writing anything) and walks away. As we sat there dumfounded, wondering what was going on, another waiter came by after about 5 minutes and really took order -- tuna carpaccio and 2 dinner combos -- and repeated our order as we were giving it. Soon thereafter, the tuna came out and 1 dinner combo. Just as we thought that our earlier experience was turned around, after about another 15 minute wait, I asked the sushi chef to get our waiter (for the 2nd time). The waiter came and I asked him about the other dinner combo and he responded like he had not heard our order of the 2 dinner combos - only 1... Frustration finally kicked in so my boyfriend went up to the kitchen to speak with the only 2 waiters about how bad the service has been. They did not respond in any productive manner and my boyfriend just asked for the 2nd dinner combo to just be packed up to-go. After we sat back down, the sushi chef came by and told us that he overheard the conversation with the waiters and advised that our dinner would be “on the house”. After about another 10 minute wait, one of the waiters brought over ice cream in a to-go container. We waited about another 5 minutes and then my boyfriend again went up to the kitchen to ask about the to-go order of the dinner combo. One of the waiters then told him that they did not make the order… The kicker is that we were the only people in the restaurant so really there was no excuse for how we were treated.

“Great Food, Mediocre Staff”

We've eaten at this place at least twice, and the food is terrific. No complaints regarding the food or the waiters. They have karaoke nights however on certain saturdays, and we tried to go to those a couple of times to no avail. We felt very unwelcomed by the staff who run the event, and on one occassion had a very terrible experience. An individual from our party had reserved some spots for a karaoke table for my boyfriend's birthday, but when we arrived, they said they had lost our reservation and later said we did not have a reservation at all. When we tried to sit at the bar, some of the people there were really rude and would not let us sit there. Nevertheless we decided to stay a little longer and see if it would get better as the friend who had made the initial reservations was trying to sort out the situation with the managment. At first we were told they were not charging a cover fee, but then some staff approached us and said they suddenly were charging a cover fee, something like 10 dollars a person! This looked curious as we were the only ones it seemed who were approached to pay this sudden fee. After some of the persons in our party had finished their drinks, they left money on the bar top and we all left pretty insulted. As we were leaving the restuarant however, some staff followed us out and actually accused us of not paying for the drinks! They must have assumed (and hopefully not as a result of racial stereotyping), that we were not the "types" to pay for services rendered. We left rather offended after that evening and will for sure never visit that establishment again. At least not for the karaoke night. So Beware! The place is only good for its FOOD.

“Great Sushi, Bad customer service”

I want to start by saying the fish is very fresh, the sushi is excellent. However, we did encounter problems with the staff, Bishamon has a lunch special, all you can eat for around $20. We came in at the end of the lunch special, we were actually 2 minutes late, however the wait person let us have the all you can eat, if we ordered everything all at once, (t seemed she was very concerned about getting off work on time. )Usually, you order in 2 or 3 rounds, so you don't over order. We could not finish a couple rolls we had ordered, and the waitress said we could only take them if we paid full price for them. If we did not pay, they were going to throw them away. Now I understand the need to limit customers, in the all you can eat department, but this was ridiculous. We are not teenagers, we were well dressed and were not there to "get over" on the restaurant. The sushi chef, tried to help us out, but the 2 waitresses did not want to let us leave without paying additional money for the rolls. The sushi chef got them to agree to give them to us for half price. We ended up paying $70.00, for sushi for 2. Had we paid for the rolls individually, we would of done a lot better. It really killed the joy of eating good food.

So a word to the wise, if you come in at the tail end of lunch, don't get the all you can eat special. I would suggest eating at the sushi bar, the chef was friendly the sushi great, and the mood was a lot more festive at the bar.

“Covina's hidden treasure”

Bishamon is by far the best sushi restaurant around. Super creative fare and the freshest fish. Must try the Japanese chips which is a fried wonton chip topped with spicy tuna, avacado, and a special jalapeno sauce, delicious. After you have your fill of sushi you must go upstairs for their all you can drink and karaoke for a mere $27.00.
