“Charming and relaxing”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2011

Coulterville is a very laid back quaint little town. It's like taking a step back in time. The Rose Cottage is like that. If you want the plastic, fantastic Holiday Inn experience, this is not for you. It has lots of character, great antique touches, and very friendly down to earth hostess. It is not modern, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Our room (the Wild West) was extremely clean and well-appointed, and the bathroom had a very modern touch. Elaine was incredibly friendly and helpful, even staying up for our somewhat late arrival, and opening the antique shop (downstairs) early the next morning so we could browse before heading to Yosemite. The bed was clean and comfortable, and we got a great night's sleep in this quiet location.

Breakfast was delicious -- a frittata with potatoes, toast, and some fresh fruit. We had the option of eating by ourselves in the dining room, but we chose to have it in the spacious eat-in kitchen so we could talk with Elaine and her husband about the town, the area, and Yosemite.

Speaking of ,Yosemite is only a short drive away from the Rose Cottage and Coulterville. Whenever I make it back to Yosemite, or if I just happen to be in the area, I will definitely be staying here again.

We stayed at the Rose Cottage and had a wonderful time. The owners were friendly and the rooms were beautiful. The linens were top of the line and the bed was extremely comfortable. The kitchen was stocked with just about everything and we were told to help our selves to whatever we wanted.
Great place to stay when going to Yosemite. The town is an historic ghost town which shouldn't be missed and we will definitely be staying there again.

We were referred here by a friend who lived in a nearby town as a place to stay when visiting Yosemite, since it is so close to the entrance. We were not disappointed! The outside was decorated like the Wild West, but the inside of the house was clean and well decorated. The hostess there was very pleasant and welcoming. My friend and I had a great nights sleep there. We would recommend this place to anyone!

We went back to Coulterville for a second time. The Jeffery was closed then, but I must say we were lucky enough to stay at a wonderful Bed and Breakfast named the Rose Cottage. It was the off season, but we called and the owner said she would open for us. True to the “breakfast” in its name we had a fabulous homemade breakfast of Pan Cakes, fresh fruit, juice, fresh eggs, and bacon made right before us in the morning.

The accommodations are spotlessly clean and bright with each room having its own theme. The lady who owns and runs the Cottage, which sets above a marvelous antique shop with loads of hidden treasure drove all the way to Sonora California to buy fresh ingredients for our morning's breakfast. She had coffee ready in the morning and the smell of bacon woke me from a very comfortable nights sleep.

Spend some time around this town and you will come back again, and again. The people are wonderful, and the old Cemetery is fantastic. If you get a chance have a drink at the Magnolia Saloon, the oldest still in operation Saloon in the State.

When it appeared that hotel Jeffery's was closed for the moment there in our eyes was nothing left to do than to drive to the next town, until a very friendly women offered us help. She owned a Bed & Breakfast on the other side of the road and offered to show it to us. Not knowing what to expect we agreed to follow her, and we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms were nicely decorated and were very cozy: it's a charming place in a charming little town. Not only that, but the personal approach from the landlady and her husband was heartwarming, like if you are visiting good friends of yours. It's also a quiet place which guaranteed a good nights' sleep, in a beautiful surrounding close to all kinds of attractions like Yosemite National Park. The place offered everything which we almost didn't encounter in another motel or hotel and if we didn't have to travel further we would have stayed here for more nights. Highly recommended!
