“Not the Best La Quinta, but comfortable”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2014

It was a busy weekend with lots of kids in tournaments. The hotel is open with doors facing noisy parking lots (motel style). The beds/pillows were comfortable. The AC worked fine; the white noise of the fan drowned out most of the outside noise. The breakfast was average: nothing extra/special. The breakfast area was too small for all the people. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful.

We just stayed there - my 14 year old son and myself. 3 days. Tues/Weds/Thurs nights.
I had a wonderful experience making the reservation. I had called the hotel late at night and got a very friendly front desk person/Samantha. She was so helpful in answering all the questions the La Quinta website couldn't answer for me (nor any other travel website.) She also got us a nice room.
The room was supposed to be ready at 3pm - but we ended up waiting until almost 4pm to get into the room because housekeeping was slow due to "people checking out late." While I understand there are delays sometimes - the head housekeeper was at the front desk "milling around" the entire time my son/I were waiting patiently in the lobby. I can't imagine why she didn't go up and help get our room ready quicker?
The front desk staff over-all was extremely nice but some folks weren't very experienced (per their own admissions.) So maybe they've added a lot of new staff?
The room was very clean and kept that way. The fridge and microwave worked without a problem.
The beds were comfortable and adequately sized. The AC in the room worked great!
The room itself has ONE garbage can the size of a mini waste basket...literally you'd have trouble fitting more than an empty gallon of milk in it. I metnioned it the first day to the front desk and it fell on deaf ears apparently. So we kept our own garbage bag/took it out ourselves each day.
The water pressure at the bathroom sink was almost none. That too I reported to the front desk the first day and it too was never fixed during the stay. The shower was very clean and the shower head had no issues delivering enough water - even if it was the water conservation type. I had read a review somewhere about this hotel's water pressure issue but only one - so I figured it was an isolated case.
The breakfast every a.m. was your basic waffle and bagels/cereal. Very little in the way of fresh fruit and VERY crowded. But that's typical for any hotel of this type so like every other - get there early and don't wait til the last hour like every one else does...and you won't hit a line! The breakfast gals who replenished the food/waffle batter supplies were pleasant/courteous.
The location of the hotel is great! 15 mins from Huntington or Newport Beach...plus the weather is great so you can roll your windows down (and who cares about some minor traffic.) Only took us 45 mins to get to Universal Studios - but we didn't leave til 9am so we could miss the a.m. freeway rush hour.
There is a "Hooters" restaurant literally "feet" away from the entrance of the hotel. They actually share a common parking lot which gives the hotel some extra spaces...so that worked out great. Not the GREATEST neighborhood - but there's a security kid walking around at night. We never felt unsafe. The restaurant right next door was never a problem - nor did the freeway being so close (which I thought might be a problem.
**The wifi in the hotel literally was HORRIBLE. It rarely worked and if you asked the front desk about it you would be told "we're having intermittent problems." So best you do your emails on a smart phone and/or have a good data plan for your phone!
The TV was great but they really didn't have that much of a selection. The only movie channels were Showtime based and at night that means X rated stuff - so watch the kids if they have their own room!
This hotel even has a laundry facility (only one - and outdoor on the 3rd floor - odd!) and ice machines on every floor...when they're working (ours was broken so we had to always go up or down to get ice.)
Over-all...it was a very good place to stay but it looks like it could easily turn into a dismal experience if there was ever any serious problems. They're doing a lot of renovations and maybe (again,) they're just going through a staff change(s) and haven't gotten themselves running on all cylinders yet. They "present" as being committed to providing good service and for the $$/location it ended up being a good deal for us. We'd stay there again - but only if the hotel convinced us they fixed the water pressure and wi-fi issues.

This hotel was centrally located with lots of shops and restaurants nearby. Ikea was right across the street. It is a very dog friendly hotel and I had not qualms about leaving my pets in the room for an hour to go to dinner.

Clean room, good bed, adequate bath. Free WiFi (always a plus) and a nice continental breakfast offering to get your day started. Best part, we can bring our dogs. For us, this is the selling point. It's also close to the Huntington Dog Beach, which is why we bring the dogs. Only downside is the rooms aren't exactly soundproof. We could hear people talking, cars coming and going, and doors slamming. And I was anxious every time our dogs barked at those noises, for fear of disturbing other guests. But again, for the money, it's a great deal for us when we need a getaway weekend at the beach.

This is a fantastic place to stay if you want to be within a pretty short drive to the beach, and you have pets. Its very clean, they have a good free breakfast, and the staff is very friendly. It is NOT a resort, I would not choose to stay here if I didn't have the dogs. However, I have no complaints, its spotless and well located.

The rooms smelled like cigarettes!!! We requested for a NON SMOKING room because we have young children. We stayed there for 2 nights in 2 different rooms and they both smelled really bad of cigarettes. The air quality in these rooms made is sick! We literally saw people standing right at the doors smoking. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Great Location 7 minutes from Newport Beach and Huntington Beach It is next to the expressway but that does not bother me plenty of white noise to keep the dogies quiet Plenty of Restaurants and Stores in the area as you drive towards Newport
