I recently joined two friends for lunch at Silver Trumpet, and the only reason they aren't getting an excellent rating is because we only tried the lunch menu, and the $4 iced tea. If the dinner is anywhere near as good as the lunch, I'll be updating my rating.
Simply said, today's lunch was fantastic, from attentive service to excellent food, in a setting that was fine dining, accompanied by very good prices.
We had the chopped salad, pastrami Reuben and "The Quickie" as well as a glass of iced tea.
My one complaint is the $4 iced tea. Yes, it was refilled constantly, but it is still $4 for iced tea. Needless to say, it was an unpleasant surprise on the check (we ordered drinks before we got the menu).
Back to the positives. First, the pastrami Reuben. $10, and a great deal. It was completely legitimate - thick, succulent slices of pastrami, tangy sauerkraut, excellent bread and a huge pile of house-made potato chips. They also did not skimp on the pickles. Overall, an excellent sandwich - and we have had literally dozens of mediocre pastrami sandwiches - so this was a pleasant surprise! The house-made chips were very well seasoned, lightly salted, crisp and delicious.
Next, the chopped salad. My friend asked for balsamic instead of the creamy dressing, no problem. It came as a large, generous pile of greens with all the promised goodies - all for $11. MUCH better than just about every chain restaurant salad that has too much iceberg and costs too much.
Finally, my meal - The Quickie. This is a half chicken BLT, small portion of Caesar salad, and cup of the soup of the day. It is $16, a bit pricey, but it was very good. Due to the price, I won't order it again, but the presentation and superb food quality and taste really impressed me. The soup was sweet potato and crispy pancetta, and was truly one of the best restaurant soups I have had in a while. Clean, distinct flavors, not salty, great texture and consistency. The chicken BLT was redolent of sun-dried tomatoes, and full of flavor. The bread was toasted, which made it a little crispy, but was a great country wheat style that contributed to the taste profile of the sandwich. It was very good.
I was really pleased with our whole experience and look forward to trying the French dip and other menu items.
