“Excellent hotel in OC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2010

Came here with my family on my first trip to OC last year and it was a terrific stay. The hotel is very close to John Wayne airport yet the hotel was quiet and you could barely hear the planes flying.
Excellent service from staff and everyone was very friendly.
We stayed for one week in July and had a room with two queen beds that faced the pool. The beds were soooo comfortable I didn't want to get up! Breakfast is included in price and was buffet every morning with the usual selections like eggs, bacon, and the occasional surprise like Chilaquiles!
Hotel has two good sized pools, jacuzzi's and offers free cookies in the lobby.
We found it to be a great location to Newport Beach and the rest of OC.
Free parking and wifi too.

This is just about the nicest place I have ever stayed. The staff was super courteous, the room was wonderful, the breakfast superb, the bed soft but not flimsy. The only problem we had was a toilet that had a flush lever that tended to stick causing the water to run.

I was a bit wary of the Ayres from other reviewers' description of its location next to John Wayne airport.

But the airplane noise was almost unnoticeable after dark, and the Ayres has to be the best value in Orange Co. -- free parking, free full breakfast, afternoon cookies, two pools and hot tubs, fitness center, etc. And a very nice European courtyard too. What an incredible value!

Just recently stayed one night at this hotel, and was not impressed. Based on the many good reviews, thought perhaps it had changed from years ago when I stayed there. It hasn't!!!!

Badly in need of an update on all things. The front desk was very friendly, and my husband enjoyed the breakfast, even though the dining room where it was served belongs in another era. Will give them an E for effort. It is like time has stood still for this property. It was clean though, which is a plus.

Ayres Hotels are truly unique from any other hotel company I have stayed at. It is not a huge corporation that franchises their hotels; each hotel is owned an operated by Ayers Hotels. Pretty much like a mom and pop's hotel chain. Everything here is excellent and I truly have nothing to complain about. The hotel is located in nice quiet area with easy access to the freeway. The hotel and restaurant staff is excellent. The room was like staying in royalty and the bed was very comfortable. Rooms are equipped with super high speed internet access and the hotel has a great gym. There is also Wi-Fi throughout the hotel. You will not regret your stay here or any other Ayers hotel and it is nice to finally stay at a hotel that you truly don't want to leave. Have a good one, cheers!!

Stayed here for one night at the end of our trip - needed to close to Newport Beach to go out on a whale watching trip the next morning. Got there too early to check in, so left our bags and returned later that evening. We had a king-sized bed - which was so comfy - and a large room with TV, hairdryer, ice machine down the corridor, coffee maker (not really good for tea, and only 2 teabags per day), clean bathroom, free wifi, plenty of free parking. Breakfast was complimentary - toast, eggs, bacon, cereal, fruit, drinks, muffins... buffet self service. Only 10 minutes drive from the beach. The turn off to the hotel is easy to miss, as its straight after the traffic lights - we missed it the first time and had to do a detour around the block, since the road is one way that the hotel is on. There is a 7-eleven next to it, and some other shops and petrol station on the corner. There is an open seating area outside the restaurant, and a pool - which gets sun directly down on it during the main part of the day. The hotel had a look to it like an Italian building, with balconies and statues. The hotel is not modern looking, but calls itself a boutique as there is a shop in the reception area. It was a good hotel for the night, and was in a good location for that area. Not a lot around it for eating - but I think there was a Mexican restaurant up the road you could drive to. The best bit was the bed - so big and comfy. The worst bit was the low flying aircraft from the local airport.

Believe all the positive reviews you read here on this hotel in ...they all say exactly what I would say about this hotel. I stayed for 5 nights attending a high school reunion and the hotel provided attendees a group rate (very reasonable!). Room was nicely situated - very nice furnishings, very comfortable bed, it was quiet, no a/c issue for me, staff & housekeeping excellent - food in restaurant excellent for hotel food - very nice complimentary breakfast with hot foods, intimate little bar area, etc, etc. The only minor thing for me was the lighting in the bathroom. There was no over the mirror lighting and there wasn't sufficient make-up lighting...which is very important for us women! I did not give it a 100% on location only because it can be a little confusing getting to the hotel and having to do a turnabout to get out to the 55 Fwy; but that isn't the hotel's problem. So I would recommend this hotel over and over; it was also located centrally for me as I am familiar with L.A. I was able to zip around both Newport Orange Co area and also over to the South Bay LAX area with no problem as long as you are aware of peak times on fwys. Stay here, you'll like it!
