“Goodbye Max's, hello La Plancha”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

Although the reviews on Yelp were quite mixed, I met friends there out of shear convenience.
Perhaps not the most authentic Mexican, but it doesn't claim to be. The salsa bar provided some tasty choices, the drinks were good and so were the three entrees that we had. No complaints with the service and the prices were not out of line either. Best restaurant in the area? No. But if you're in the area and in the mood for Mexican, it sure beats anything else around.

“A disappointing newcomer”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

A brand new Mexican restaurant in Marin better be at least as good as the multitude of others already there . . . or even better! La Plancha is neither. Disappointing food, some of which isn't even hot when served. Good guacamole and variety of tequilas, but the basic menu items are mediocre at best.

“Excellent food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2013

La Plancha has been open for a little more than a month. It is attached to the Best Western in Corte Madera. The restaurant used to be Max's. We went around 5 on a Sunday afternoon. There were a few tables, but it became quite busy by the time we left. We started with drinks and guacamole. The guacamole was a large bowl, and it was superb. Very fresh and super tasty. The chips are house made and outstanding. They come in buckets, warm and crisp from the fryer. I have never had better chips. Unfortunately, the salsa that was brought to the table was bland. They do have a salsa bar, but I didn't make it there because I was eating the guacamole. We were a family group, and the two children had the make your own tacos. They were fabulous! Each one was a beautiful plate with rice, French fries ( their choice) , meat, lettuce, fruit, and the cutest little tortillas to make their own tacos. They also were given crayons to draw on the paper covering the table.
The adults had chile rellanos, two kinds of enchiladas, and carnitas. All the food was excellent, but the chile rellanos really stood out. It was a large pepper deliciously stuffed with cheese and perfectly fried-- the best I have ever had! They have a choice of three kinds of rice and beans, but I can't comment on that because mine never came. That is where this restaurant fell down. The service was poor. It took a long time for the food and drinks to come, and things came sporadically. Which is why they missed the rice and beans. Normally I would have said something, but I had more delious food than I could eat, so I didn't bother. I hope that with time the service will improve, so the restaurant will do well. I would certainly like to be able to come back and have another delicious meal. The prices were very reasonable. $12 for a large combo plate of chile rellanos and a chicken enchilada. Wih drinks, and the guacamole the check for 3 adults and two children was about $70.
