“Dog friendly, great staff - away from the bustle of Coronado craziness”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

We just stayed here for a weekend and brought our dog since the Loews hotels are dog friendly and we had so much fun. We've stayed at "dog friendly" hotels before that end up having very few places where you could actually take your dog, but this hotel was so accommodating towards our pooch! There's tons of places to take take them around for walks/potty. Plus, they thought of everything to make his stay special - from writing his name on the doggy welcome board, to giving him his own Loews dog tag, to providing nice dog bowls in the room (that we were allowed to take home!), our little guy was treated so kindly. They even have a dog food menu at the cafe and on room service for pete's sake!

And now for how we were treated: the staff were all excellent, friendly and accommodating with the exception of one snarky hotess at the Market Cafe - we were really impressed by all of the staff, from valet to reception to room service to wait staff, they were great.

Here's the negative: be sure to bring your ear plugs if you're a light sleeper! The rooms are nice and have great rooms but holy cow are they loud - we could hear our neighbors and anytime someone's door closed, it seemed to slam and our bed would actually shake! I would recommend a top-floor room for that reason as well. Also, be prepared that parking is $25 for self, $30 for valet (though there is in/out privileges) and it is about a 5-10 minutes drive into the "heart" of Coronado. There is a complimentary shuttle into town and this hotel is an excellent location if you're wanting to get away from the hustle/bustle of the main drag of Coronado. We actually liked that it was a getaway but some people might want to be within walking distance of shops/restaurants. Also, there is no ipod dock which is so strange nowadays and the only music option is for fees ($14 per 2 hours) on the TV - huh?

Restaurants: We ate at Mistral (no doggies allowed, dog had to sit that one out in our room) and it was delightful and delicious - definitely an experience. Pricey, though! The Market Cafe allowed our dog as long as we sat outside, we had both breakfast and lunch this way. Again moderately pricey, but pretty good. Breakfast had both a la cart and buffet options. We had food service delivered and it was great.

Room Tip: The rooms are noisy with thin walls so I would think low level rooms might be louder.

Thought this place would be more exciting. Especially for the price it was! Location is a bit far into Coronado. Staff is nice, lobby is pretty, but rooms are just ok. Parking is $25 dollars a day. Get a room on the top floor, so you can get a decent view of the bay.

Stayed at Loew's Hotel for a business conference. Stayed at the Hilton on the Bay last year. This by far surpassed the Hilton. This was an elegant, high-end property without the high end price. Staff knew your name and addressed you in that way. Conference facilities were great, as were all the meals provided. The weather cooperated. Rooms were very, very clean and lovely. Our room overlooked the pool and was just beautiful. Don't hesitate .... it was great!

Room Tip: We requested a handicapped accessible room and it overlooked the pool.

The venue, on the water, is very nice and the facility is impressive. The rooms are good sized and the bathrooms nicer than normally found in some hotels. Staff is friendly and helpful - Gordie at the Concierge Desk was notable. Rough spots included slow check in, slow service at the "Market To Go" and a little confusion at the Market (we had numerous waiters come by to take orders we'd already given someone else). The housekeepers didn't take a used plate and fork from the room for two days - I finally put it on top of the waste basket and that worked. Lots of fees that add up - Internet is high, for example, and accessories for business meetings (audio visual, refreshments) are high. For example, a can of Coke was $5 and a paper flip chart was charged out at $85/day. We liked being away from the main commerce areas of Coronado, but it doesn't limit your choices. I expected a little smoother functioning facility - and certainly fewer miscellneous charges.

Clean hotel, decent price and they have a beautiful property. The gal at the front desk didn't treat us any differently, even though we pricelined it and got a really good rate. I thought that was nice.

We didn't do much more than check in, hit the hot tub and check out the next morning, but we enjoyed our stay. This place is a bit far from everything in Coronado, you can't walk to anything, but that may be good if you're looking for privacy and remoteness. This definitely feels like a resort in SD, and the location is great in terms of 'getting away from it all'.

This property was very nice with its own private beach. THe views where awesome and the service was great. They also allow dogs as well. THe food was good in the restaurant but the waitress was sub par but they rectified this with food up to our room.

This was my second stay at the Loews Coronado Bay for a conference. I found the staff to be friendly and accommodating. Nice location on across the street from the beach.

The hotel is far from Coronado and without a car, you are stuck. Parking is $20 per day. Could hear noise coming from other rooms. Request a room on the top floor or you will hear the people above you. In the winter, you do not want a first floor room. My room was over the parking garage and the bathroom floor was freezing. Every night I would lay down towels on the floor to keep the tiled floor a bit warmer.

Housekeeping service was inconsistent. My room wasn't fully serviced when I arrived. I had to ask for housekeeping to come in and clean. I had to call down three different nights to have the coffee cups restocked. Simple little things started bothering me.

Had dinner in Mistral which was very enjoyable. Fantastic service and food.
