“One of the best in America”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

We are recent retirees and have been staying at the Glorietta Bay Inn for 13 years. Our last stay was December 2012. It is superb. The staff are so good, they could teach customer service to the Ritz Carlton staff. The room and maintenance staff are equally friendly and helpful. We have stayed in many rooms. We like the Garden Room in the mansion and 336 in the other rooms. The latter has a cute private table outside the door and is quiet. We have stayed in the Library Room, but it is close to the staff morning breakfast set-up and tends to be noisy in the early morning. The proximity to the Del Coronado across the street is perfect because one has full access to the facility and beach without all the crowds, especially at Christmas. A very nice place, one of the best in America.

Just spent a weekend getaway at Coronado. The staff a Glorietta Bay Inn were very welcoming and helpful. On hearing that we were going to hang out near the hotel area after our 1-night stay, the manager immediately offered to extend our check-out time for free (2pm instead of regular 11am). Note the hotel consists of the "Mansion" (where the founder of Hotel Del used to live- have to book through hotel website) and an adjoining annex that is laid out like a fancy motel 6- i.e. a mini courtyard in the middle, have to walk up uncovered stairs to some rooms). In general:

PROS:

- AWESOME location (across the street from the famous Hotel Del Coronado), mins walking distance from the Coronado beach. Rooms with view directly overlook the Glorietta bay where many yachts are parked.
- Good price for this location (check out the price for rooms at Hotel Del with views!)
- In general, the hotel is elegant and tastefully decorated.
- Complimentary continental breakfast served in a historical drawing room or outdoor terrace. A good variety of food choice.
- Comfortable bed (we're very picky)
- Good size fridge, microwave

CONS:

- $10 parking/night (not too bad considering parking near the beach is tight)
- Rooms slightly dated (even the new part). I noticed some rusts at the bottom of the bathroom door frame- my husband probably didn't noticed.
- For rooms with Glorietta Bay view, there may be a little street noise since there is a small street between the hotel and the bay (not a busy street though).

In general I'd be happy to go back for my next getaway (I live in San Diego) or recommend my OOT guests to stay there.

Room Tip: Stay at the mansion if you want to splurge, otherwise rooms with view overlook the Glorietta bay.

We stayed for three nights in December 2012. The three words to describe this boutique hotel is: location, value, charm. It is perfectly located. It's literally across the street from the Del Coronado, a short stroll to the Del Coronado beach, right next to the Orange street shopping and restaurants, and just around the corner from the public Golf course. We felt we got a great value. We stayed for three nights and paid $499 all taxes included, parking included, a super awesome continental breakfast each day, and a bottle of wine. So, the calculated $499 divided by three nights is $167 a night -- but it is obviously less with all the included values. As great as the Del Coronado is, the value here at Glorietta is hard to pass up. Also, at Glorietta, since it's such a small property, you can enter and leave the property quickly without having to walk through several hallways, lobbies, elevators like the big hotels. That was nice since we were on vacation and wanted to maximize our relaxing time. Also, you can park right in front of your room, which makes it so convenient to come and go. I really really came to appreciate that.

As far as the rooms are concerned... We lucked out and got a Bay View room with a balcony and a nice view where we could see some of the bay and the boats. The interiors were nice and spacious -- there was a little nook where we could work on the computer and not be in the way of the main part of the room. The only two things that were inconveniences on the property during our stay was the toilet and television. The toilet flush was very weak and was frustrating to get to work. And there was some issue with Time Warner Cable so the channels were somewhat limited. Instead of watching tv, we checked out some DVDs from the front desk (they have a pretty large collection!) But in the grand scheme, these two did not take away from our loving our stay. All in all, I think you will be hard pressed to find a hotel with the combination of location, value, and charm.

We stayed here for the first time in early September. The hotel was very busy but managed to be quiet and elegant. The check in staff was exceptionally gracious and helpful. We elected to stay in a room overlooking the bay rather than in the mansion. It was small but had very new upgraded bedding, furnishings and all the amenities you could ask for, including a small refrigerator. The free breakfast was very elegantly served in the mansion and had lots of nice seating, both in the library and on the outdoor patio. They do not have a restaurant at hotel for dinner but there are dozens within walking distance. We also saw some guests with carryout food on the patio of the hotel which looked like a fun thing to do after the beach. We felt very relaxed and comfortable here and plan to return.

Room Tip: If you do not plan to spend much time in your room, don't pay extra for bay view.

We stayed at the Glorietta Bay Inn for three nights in October and would thoroughly recommend the hotel. Our arrival was late at night after a long flight and a long queue at immigration, but we were made to feel welcome straightaway.
Our room was the Sunset Room, beautifully decorated in a Victorian style with light furniture, a very comfortable bed covered in cushions and all the conveniences we required. There was a bath with shower and outside, a private terrace area with swinging hammock and a table and chairs.
The continental breakfast is served downstairs in or outside (we sat outside on the lovely terrace) or can be delivered to your room at no cost.
The hotel offers lots of great touches, freshly made cookies and chocolates in a little box with “Have a good night from the Glorietta Bay Inn” delivered each night, milk for the cookies in the hall way, fresh lemonade available anytime and wine and cheese in the early evenings.
The Glorietta as described is just across from the Coronado Del Mar Hotel and is in a perfect location for the beach and Orange Street where many restaurants are located. We ate at the Brigantine which was very good and ice-creams in the gelateria at the Del are not to be missed.
There are also two theatres on Coronado Island. We went to see Around the World in 80 days at the Lamb’s Theatre only ten minutes walk away and it was very entertaining. The Old Town Trolley tour also stops in Orange Street we took a great tour of San Diego.
All in all, we would recommend this lovely boutique hotel and hope to stay there again some day.

Room Tip: The Sunset Room is lovely, and very bright and airy.

We recently stayed here for three nights at the beginning of a 10 day road trip celebrating our 40th anniversary with another couple. The staff was outstanding and the location is excellent. Breakfast was included with our package and it was very good. We did not stay in the mansion but in two other rooms overlooking the bay. We had great views and it was an easy walk to restaurants and shops in Downtown Coronado. The hotel is right across the street from the Hotel Del. Great place for a drink. The inn itself is very well kept and very relaxing. We only wish we had more time o stay in San Diego. A special thank you for the welcome bottle of wine that the hotel provided to both couples.

My fiance and I stayed here on a weekend for a wedding. We were assigned a room with a veranda overlooking the harbor. It was so perfect! I just loved sitting out there and drinking my coffee in the mornings. The complimentary breakfast was also nice. They offered plenty of fresh fruit, cottage cheese, bagels, breads, cereals, granola and yogurt. Coffee and tea were offered almost all day. The most impressive part of our stay was how friendly the staff was. They were ready to help with any of your needs; whether it be beach chairs and towels or anything to do with the island and reservations. I will definitely stay here if we return to Coronado. Thank you for such a wonderful stay!
